Most mainlanders I've met are really nice. Maybe because I work at a graduate business school, they are well educated, well mannered. All of my co-workers, mostly white people, agree that the group from china is the best to dealt with.

Any more concrete example other than just "they are very nice"? For the bad examples, people won't say "they are bad", but very visualize like "they pee on airplane" etc. Can you tell "how nice" they are? And how are they "nicer" to other people ar? If the standard is, "0" mark means normal, some of the mainlanders are "0" mark but they are already better than many "below 0" marks mainlanders, and so we called them "nice"? If so, still below the standard of "nice" la. What do you think?

Don't try to confuse people. I didn't say that HK people are flawless. If you really want me to cite all the bad habits that HK people have, it will take me quite some time to finish. The point is: we aware our weakness and try improve.

Lacking the ability to see your own weakness will only lead to failure. This is what makes me worry about the future development of China.

I quote from the newspaper simply because I think this is a good point to share but not 人云亦云...What a pity that you can't tell the difference between 人云亦云 and 獨立思想.

well in a general sense " MOST" mainlanders are not civilized~ not all! at least the ones im friends with, who are from guangzhou, are very nice ppl! they are friendly.. basically acts like hongers~ but the thing is... northern chinese... namely beijing ppl they are just really loud and really almost......... rude.... like... we no u can speak mandarin, oh the "official way'" of sayin mandarin, but that really doesnt make u better... in no mean of being offensive but... basically anybody who is rude and being aggressive are really annoying no matter they are from mainland or US or watever. so i wouldnt say i hate mainlanders~ i just get really annoyed and everything when i see mainlanders who act uncivilized... so.. basically a majority of them~ XD

ya and i guess.. hongers always say they are from hk not from china.... all my honger friends.. .almost... avoid saying they are from china.. even though its call hk, china now...

interesting though, as last year marks 10th anniversary of hk was headed back to China... i dont really have much of an urge to go back to hk anymore, maybe because of the freewalkers in hk now.. or just.. because even the hong kong ppl living there.. is a lot different from wat used to be.... or is is just me...

We saw many social behaviors that are not acceptable in western standard. But, maybe we need to allow them have an opportunity to learn and change their behaviors.

However, I also have to admit that whether they would be aware of their behaviors and try to learn how to act in a more appropriate maner is a problem.

People from mainland China maybe rude and self-centered, but they can easily outwork everyone from Hong Kong or survived in the worst situation while HK ppl would back off from any problem they face.  For example, when HK ppl cannot find a job, they just go back to their home country.

Most of us the HK immigrants came at least with a little bit of money, at least we can afford a small place and a car.  A friend of mine came to Canada with only $600 USD, and he still managed to finish a Master Degree and now even got married and have a daughter, in just 5 years.  He might be rude and loud and still coughing phlegm to the ground, but he is more willing to help and less gossip talking, materialistic, and hypocritic compare to half HK ppl I know.
