Entirely correct. Except politicians in Western countries do it by giving voters the public programs and services they want and fulfilling (some of) their election promises.

And when their attempts to "buy votes" wasn't good enough, they get kicked out of the office and the other party comes in for a shot at the helm.

That's what democracy is all about. Using the carrot of staying in power to lure the political parties to serve the people, and using the stick to kick them out when they fail to do so. But of course someone like you wouldn't understand.

D咩競選承諾﹐好似話要減稅﹐派錢之類既﹐本質上同買票有咩分別?
加拿大而加既保守黨都係靠減稅派錢先上到位﹐一到經濟衰退咪好似而家o甘要加幾百億債務囉。

香港政府增加下d 免稅額, 減下電費水費, 民望即刻會升番哂啦!

人民係短視既﹐作為政府應有更長遠既計劃。
但民主制度既政權輪替太頻繁﹐有咩長遠計劃都好難實現啦。
