Bleh. Declared $385 on kitchen goods thru Blaine and got taxed. Never got taxed @ Point Roberts. Even tho usually Blaine < $400 rarely get taxed too. Gonna go back to Point Roberts next time anyways.
I used to come back using regular lane...but since I know that I can do verbal declaration...I just go thru Nexus lane every time when I come back to Van. Never get taxed though (touch wood), but I try to limit the amt to below $200. Worst case I just go to PR one more time. Still better than having $400 stuff all at once.
A while back when we cross the Nexus lane, the office "refused" to take our form after asking how much we purchase (was like ~$150 for 2 persons). When he asked me to go, I still had my declaration form in hand. I asked him whether he wants to take my declaration form and he said "NO".
Since then, we don't fill in the form anymore and just declare verbally when our purchase was ~$200 for daily trip. If I bring in high price items, I will still fill in the form since that will prevent me from being sent inside. So far so good.
My friend once came back with a pair of ski of ~$400. With 4 people in the car, he still got taxed. Since he didn't fill in the form, he had to go inside and pay the duty/tax there.
well, like I said, crossing border is always a test on your luck in whether you got tax or not.
Having 4 people may not always help. However, I found that when having a cute dog with us definitely helped. I heard a baby will help crossing border too.
