i m trying to figure out whether i should buy tires from US or here..
anyone tried buyin from US before?
how much did u pay for tax and duty?

If you just buy tires without rims and ship them back to Canada, it won't be that much cheaper than some local stores.

Just to remind you guys that the customs are not stupid. Unless the weather is so bad outside that they can't see your wheels, they can tell by feeling the depth of the tires or simply looking at the tires.

I've seen people get busted at Blaine because they got new tires in TDS and not declaring them.

I just went Seatle again ..  just for shopping day trip..  I told the custom I spend $3-400 ..  and she (yeah .. a SHE .. and pretty! )  she just said, " Ok, bye "  and  even asked " Oh, I dont need to pay tax ? "  she said " No, have a good nite "

If you just spend $3-400 on tire ..  custom is not going to tax you ..

Wait... your tires are still new. It should be ok for this winter, just buy it in summer.

You have 2 options here:
1) Buy a set of steel rims from Walmart, put the winter tires on. Just swap the wheels before/after winter with your reg. wheels.

2) Buy a new set of rims for you car, then use the original alloy wheel for winter.

I buy all the tires/wheels on eBay, very cheap if you get it when they are not in demand (like summer).

Use this to find out if the stuff you are buying from foreign are subject to tax/duty.

Cars stuff, if they are made in China, they are subject to 6% duty + GST/PST.
