垃圾搜尋、垃圾桶尋寶、翻垃圾桶等，是指從別人拋棄的東西（有時不一定是垃圾桶）中收集自己有用的東西（例如食物）作為自用。進行這種行為的人不一定是因為貧窮，部份人是響應環保，更有部份人是以抗議及痛心資本主義社會的浪費；甚至有視之為嗜好者。

垃圾搜尋是一種行為，從垃圾堆中搜尋個人喜好的「寶物」，類似淘金。現代城市垃圾多數用垃圾袋包裹，翻垃圾難免破損其包裝，所以某些法例禁止翻垃圾桶行為，理由是公眾衛生。

9.3 Removal of Recycling Container or Recycling Cart /Material Prohibited

(2) Where recyclable material has been deposited in a blue box recycling container or recycling cart by the owner or occupier, no person is permitted to remove
                                 
(a)     any recyclable material from the premises of that owner or occupier, or
(b)     any recyclable material from the blue box recycling container or
          recycling cart,

except the City Engineer or a person previously authorized in writing by the
City Engineer.
