u know the meaning of 自嘲?
even though we are all chinese, obviously, they are different from us.

let me give u an example, I think many U.S people make fun or even do a little insult to their own president(s), but I don't think they will like it if people from other nation do that

I can call myself 電車力, and I wouldn't mind others making good, light fun of me either. Do you suppose I have no idea what self-mockery means?

In terms of self mockery, the US and the UK are indeed masters of this art. The overwhelming majority of Americans wouldn't give a damn about people mocking their own president as long as it is not rooted in prejudice nor racism. Do you ever recall Americans getting ticked off when the entire world started mocking Clinton and his "cigar smoking", and Bush for every little thing he did? The Brits are even more skilled in this as they regularly mock themselves and others. This is the very reason why British humour is so highly acclaimed.

And now look at the Chinese. What were the Shxt Youths' reaction when people make fun of Emperor Jiang? of Jiabao? and most importantly, of Murderer Mao? See what I mean by Chinese not having even the most basic sense of humour in mocking themselves (and being ok with others making fun of them in light hearted manners?)

The day you start calling yourself 蠢薯 is the day you start understanding what self mockery mean.

Your way of viewing Chinese culture is distorted. How do you even know there is no Chinese person in the world who has a sense of humour? This is just a baseless claim of yours. How do you know all the British or Americans feel about Clinton? You are just making baseless claims here and assume that your views are representative of all people. You cannot speak for other people.

You cannot force others to accept you own interpretation of humour or mockery. How much mockery is fun, how much is too much? You cannot impose British or American culture on the Chinese people. Who cares if the British like mockery? Okay, you can have your own views, which maybe right or wrong. But it is your know-it-all, and I-am-always-right attitude that makes you look foolish.

LOL~

Do you even know what generalizations and rule of thumb mean? They means something that is generally, but not always, true. Do you want to see results from referendums on every little issue before making any observations? But by your standards, that would still not be enough because not everyone would come out to vote. And wait, do you even know what referendums mean, because it isn't something that can be done in Mainland China (nor even in Hong Kong -- although the same effect can be achieved with a little ingenuity as LSD and the pan-Democrats have done now).

In your books, I guess it is not acceptable to even say things like "men like women", right?

How come every time you discuss something me, you have to try to link it with the political situation in mainland China? it only makes you look foolish.

Lik is so funny. He thinks British humour is better than Chinese humour. But who is he to say? Lik is trying to define what type of mockery is good for the Chinese, and if we reject certain types of racial mockery, then we 連自嘲嘅氣量都無, how ridiculous Lik is?
Are we going to let Lik, the self-proclaimed know-it-all, the always-correct guy, define what's good/bad, what our culture should be?

haha this is getting political. I like it, let me bring the girl in the the picture, she can be in the "spotlight" or scapegoat, whatever you call it.

I actually know the girl in the video haha, she happens to be a classmate in highschool, she had this hatred over hongers, which i don't mean to magnify. in school, i have been called a honger. in my adult life, when i worked, i've been called a cbc. I take both as an insult. As a honger, i would be made fun of of my ****ty engrishi. As a cbc, i would be refered as a canada pig. I sometimes take it as a joke, sometimes take it as an insult. But come to think about it, these are human baseless attacks simply because my counterparts doesn't like me. We are all chinese people, why do we still fight over these small differences in culture? its so contradicting, for example, our parents tell us, immigrate here to learn from the West, get the knowledge and help Chinese people. Then when we become these saviors, there are Chinese people that think we are 汉奸. do you feel me? this is like a left right problem, to be or not to be, to be honger or cbc. all of this probably based only on jealous. And no, I don't think this video is funny at all, maybe i don't have a sense of humour.

i don't know what to say... but this video is kind of funny

Actually I don't find this video funny at all.
Especially the last part when she talks about the different sports she(or the club) participates...I mean, so what? Like if I play badminton and  soccer, and others play different types of sports then what's big deal? To me the video just tries to point out how "superior" CBC (or local) is vs Honger. (like Honger struggles with LPI but CBC takes MCAT ...)
