I support the project for transportation is the major factor when a country is developing. There is an example in USA, a almost completed highway network to bond all the states together when air travel is not popular. Imagine one day, if you need to finish a project about shanghai economy, you can go to  shanghai library in the morning & back at night. don't be short sight. HK can afford the price & if it is not building will cost more in the future unless you want HK is a isolated place in China.

You still cannot grasp the value of the highspeed railway. It is not as simple as just looking at whether the railway can generate an operating profit. Governments don't usually make money from building public infrastructures which are necessary for generating economic activities.
Using your logic, the Skytrain should be discontinued, since it is losing money.

As a libertarian, I agree with privatization of trankslink.  Government projects are always uneconomical in the long run.
