Vancouver rolls out red carpet for Chinese tourists
Canada given "Approved Destination Status"

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - A group of tourists from China will be getting the full V.I.P. treatment today at Vancouver International Airport. The travellers are the first to land at Y.V.R. since Canada was given "Approved Destination Status."

Premier Gordon Campbell will be there along with M.P. Stockwell Day, and Y.V.R. president Larry Berg. It's all for the inaugural tour group from China after our country received the long sought-after status back in  June.

There will be as many as 350 people arriving here over the next few days, booked by 13 Chinese tour companies. After touring  B.C., some tourists will also continue on to Alberta, Ontario and Quebec.

The Canadian Tourism Commission has been seeking an A.D.S. designation from the Chinese government for the past ten years.

The commission says the potential for tourism growth is huge, it says Chinese travellers injected $261-million into the Canadian economy in 2009, which is double the amount from the year 2000.

I have heard stories that some Chinese tourists are spending $$$$$ in a 10-day tour (not including $$$$$ spend in casino) here...

Sure they are helping out the economy...

I heard they offers special tours in China for tourists with the purpose of buying real estates in Canada.

Just build more houses will solve the issue.
Maybe ask the Indians to stop coming here, that will reduce demand for houses.

but at the same time they helped our economy overall,  benefits the real estate agents, builders, etc., even the construction workers, also it would help more house starts if the investors are looking forward for more Chinese rich man come to buy new houses, hence better economy in long run... so there are advantages too, except that we'll face higher inflation... but in a free world, we can't stop ppl from buying our houses ga bor, we should hope for more corruptors to be caught in China, so there will be less 暴發戶 lor...

There will more and more legitimate rich people from China since their economy is growing rapidly.
It is unfair to say Chinese rich are corrupt. It would be like saying Hong Kong rich are triads.

it depends... even some are not corruptors, they might got the money from selling fake milk powder, etc., so if they system is better, obviously will be less 暴發戶 lor...
