engine diagnosed with terminal illness la.
planning to use it till it almost die, and then replace with old engine preferably with looooow mileage.
buy new car,
need 4 wheel drive ah.. (dun wanna have to take bus + walk when it snows.. )
so expensive..
so yea..
replacing engine.. hopefully using this current engine will not cause problems for other parts..

current mechanic said reason for engine dying = me didn't go for oil change enuf..
I used to go to dealership ga ma, until like the last 2 yrs after running into the ditch and flipping the car..
lexus always called when it's time for oil change
so i probably DID get oil change when i was supposed to.. ..
and for the recent 2 yrs, i have been going to the same place.
car needs to be fixed every few months- half year..
i THOUGHT oil change etc was taken care of,
until the last time engine light was on, and the mechanic said the engine was filled with "gunk" that was supposed to be the engine oil.. Engine oil was all "caked up" inside..
They even showed me the "oil paste" too.. =.=
Mechanic said it happened because I was long due for an oil change - i believe that was the first time i "missed" going for oil change when i should've.. and it was because i assumed car was taken car of for those times when i bring my car to get fixed! I guess they just fixed the parts, like replaced O2 sensor.. idle control valve etc.. but didn't help me do oil change.

they helped me wash out all the gunk
helped me do oil change
and told me it should get better now if i keep doing oil change on time.
but in less than 2 month's time
engine light was on again (and this is when i start to think i should try a different car shop)
and it was making weird noises...
i just went back in the afternoon today
and talked with the mechanic (who showed me the oil paste in my engine last time )
he was surprised my engine oil level was very low!
at first he got a liter of engine oil
started pouring...
not enuf
went in and got another liter..
STILL not enuf
he knelt down to check the bottom of my car (me squatted down to check too)- nothing was leaking..
he told me it usu takes 5 L to do oil change
he had to pour 3L of oil into the engine this afternoon to get it back to normal levels..
so car must've been burning some of the engine oil.. =.=
he said that's a sign of the engine ceasing up..
I then told him the story of how the first mechanic at lexus told me there was gasoline shooting back at my engine, and how we dismissed the problem because the front desk person at the current car shop told me the engine will probably burn off that extra oil..
I told the mechanic that i really wanna keep this car..
asked him for suggestions
and suggestions were:
1. replace engine with new engine
2. replace with old engine with low mileage
3. take current engine apart and replace problematic parts
and he said option 2 is cheapest.
We marked down the mileage i have on my car today
and i'll go back in about a week,
so he can find out how much engine oil was burnt..
I kinda trust this mechanic..
he seem genuine and experience .. (maybe because of white hair! LOL)
by the way,, i'm sorry for miss spelling ur name last time, habitrailspace!! I was going to go back and edit but it was past 30min after i posted the message!

just that the dealership person was very yueng sui.
i didn't like it at all
also they were expensive..
even if i go back,
they might know i won't be with them for the long term.. and charge me more! '0'
I wonder if it's the same for lexus...
if it is.. then i'm not sure what the shop i've going to for the past 2 yrs is missing
- and obviously they won't tell me!!
