I do realize HKers are not perfect too. But do you agree that it's safe to assume more Mainlanders need to improve their 秩序同公德 in comparison? In Beijing, the 11th day of every month is now a designated day to practice lining up properly while waiting for transit. The government had to do it coz Olympics is coming and it knows how embarrassing it is that whole bunch of adults don't know how to line up! If you've ever travelled to Mainland, u'll see a lot of government slogans telling ppl not doing this not doing that, do this do that. All I can say is 秩序同公德 should be taught to little kids at school la. Can't always rely on slogans.

I too feel angry seeing a bunch of western media fabricating stories to insult China. But simple stuff like 秩序同公德 foreigners can see with their own eyes and judge. And if the citizens can't reach a certain standard, foreigners will look down on us the Chinese.

Tell me which race is perfect? I really don't want to look down Mainlander for we're all "Chinese". But how can I tell others I am one of a well discipline "Chinese" while billions bad ones out there? Honestly, I don't proud of being a "Chinese". I just proud of being myself, no matter what race I am.

I strongly agree with this statement. And from my personal experience, I did see students in University and Highschool in China have better if not proper manners than the general public. I think it's just a matter of time.

香港人只是有幸不用经历如大耀进、文革等动盪政治运动而比大陸人可以較早接受文明教育，曾幾何時香港不也是週街貼滿告示：不可隨处便瀝、不可隨地吐啖，罚款二仟有可能！還经常唱：垃圾蟲，垃圾蟲，制造垃圾損市容！当年香港人不也一样！大陸人要经历種種政治运动而失去十幾廿年文明教育及发展機会，那是他们的不幸，有些大陸人今天能成为有錢人也只是因近年中国经济起飛而给與他们機会，要是廿多年前他们還可能只是一个在工广打工賺取幾十元人民帑的工广工人甚至是在工社内日日担屎耕田过活的农民，要知道工社内的农民未必一定是农民，很多是文革時期被政府下放到老远的农村的学生、知识份子，他们不像我们生活在自由文明高尚社会中，他们失去受真正教育的機会，沒有親人照顧，長年接觸的就是不断的思想改造，身边的领导人其实就是一些冇学识的农民，他们过的並非是他们願意过的生活，住的是很不理想的环境，做的工作並非是他们的志願！当中有不少人捱不过去病、意外而死、自殺死、被批鬥死更是无數！我们这些一岀世便有高床軟枕的香港人能对他们过往经能有多少體会？口口声声批评大陸人怎的怎的，只怕是香港人一向过得太舒服吧！今天在中国內依然有干千萬萬人住在窮鄉地方，依然未能有个人应得的教育，在宁夏生活的孩子一年也未必洗到一次澡，家裡沒有厕所，我们不要祈待十年後他们会跟我们城市人一样，我们香港人所擁有的幸福只怕是欠了他们的！別只以为我们岀生於香港便了不起，我们的祖父母有幾多不是源自大陸，我们能说我们的祖父母从沒试过隨街吐啖？相伩佢地当年唔少都有喺街痾过尿！

the way HKer see mainland Chinese today is similar to Canadian see HK immigrant in 80's. its different in cultures and education. it wouldn't take long for them to catch up.

You have ur pt here. That's why I feel so sad that the communist government spent so much $ on Olympics, space technology.. Things to "prove China to be a strong country". And yet in such a "strong country", so many little kids don't even get basis medication and education. Is sending kaikonaunts to space more beneficial to the 13 billion ordinary citizens, or giving them the very basis human right to get medical treatment and literacy education?

Chinese values fame (mian zi) too much. And always tries to hide its ugly side (eg. HIV, SARS). Really, who's going to be benefited by the government recognizing those problem? If the government at least say sth about those issue, the ordinary folks will know how to better protect themselves. Instead, the government always says it's domestic problem and none of other countries' business.
