only marinated with salt and black pepper?

I normally marinate meat with:
sugar,
salt,
corn starch,
water (that helps to make the meat softer, and moist),
soy sauce,
chinese wine,
and seasome oil etc...

But recently, I've been told that I shouldn't use salt!? (from TV show)
