You do not need to be rich to use HSBC service in any BIG city in the world. Good luck if you want to find a big 5 branch in Tapei or Bangkok or any where in the world. For me, it is very comforting to find HSBC ATM at a foreign airport and know there is a branch in the city. Having money close by is sometimes more important than the Canadian Consolate

You can use the Chinese big 5, they are way larger than the Canadian banks.

They keep changing policy for one reason:  charge customers for more money.  I changed to TD months ago

I think they will be even worse as more China ppl coming to Vancouver, as they all know this brand and they would not worry about no business....

compare to other big banks, hksc has the worst technology
