baking: butter/margarine instead of vegetable oil? margarine, baking, vegetable, butter, oil

for baking, the instruction indicated "vegetable oil" but i got none. can i use butter or margarine or just regular oil instead? does anyone know?

If recipe asks for "vegetable oil", I usually just grab the cooking oil I have at home. Vegetable oil can be corn oil, or canola oil.
