I find it really funny that how Vancouver people are so scared of going out when there's snow...
I was driving down to Bellingham on saturday when it was snowing really hard... all my friends and my family were like, "Are you crazy? u'r gonna die or something"
But i guess i'm getting used to driving in snow condition in Alberta now... even crazy snow storm is not gonna stop me from going to places..

Maybe you don't understand what they are worrying about you? Not because of the the snow, they might be worrying about the black ice and most likely the careless drivers out there. They are cautious not scared.

The snow itself is not deadly if your car is well-prepared with proper winter equipments.  It's just the cars who do not have the proper tires for heavy snow with drivers who freak out when they see snow on the ground when driving 20km/h or daredevils who cuts lane and tries to speed up to 70km/h like a summer day at 2 inches of snow on ground that's causing problems.

On the other hand, I don't believe the winter will be any worse than what we had before. Snow and cold are two different things.  Snowday for a full week is highly unlikely, even though windchill can be record breaking, we'll probably still go to school and work as usual.

as long as the government does a good job in keeping the roads clear, it will already help a lot. like the first snowstorm in vancouver, the roads were horrible and they were completely unprepared. that's why there are so many accidents. of course, it also depends on the people driving and their preparedness for winter conditions, but still, I was driving down some major routes that night and the roads were completely covered in snow, not even salted enough, and don't even talk about plowing!
