How do I feel about this? That if I want to receive federal stimulus $$$ in the future, I better vote Conservatives next time~
I have no intention of defending Steve Harpy and the Conservatives nowadays, but I would still caution against a superficial read of what the news report is trying to suggest -- that Harper and the Conservatives are only pumping money into the Tory-held ridings. But if you read the fine print, you'll see that:
Numbers compiled by The Canadian Press reveal that in the initial wave of stimulus spending under the Community Adjustment Fund
...
The results offer only a partial snapshot of Ottawa's $62-billion program to bolster the economy amid the global recession.
...
findings from a 2009 Canadian Press study of the first round of spending announcements under the program
The point I want to make here is that factually speaking, the news article here is only talking about what happened in the initial wave of stimulus spendings. Did other non-Tory ridings eventually received their share of the stimulus money as well? Who knows, cuz the article didn't mention anything at all. If they did, then I wouldn't have any problems with the money going out to Tory ridings first. Certainly it would have been nicer if the order of $$ distribution was more even, but as long as everyone got their share, I'm ok with that.
As a final word, I'm just gonna say this -- be critical and analytical when you read news reports. You want to read between the lines and sniff out the facts among the biased direction that the newspaper wants to steer you towards.
