VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - A 'green' Christmas would make retailers happy this year and it's looking like they might get their wish.  And despite the Harmonized Sales Tax and a dollar hovering near parity with its US counterpart, things are looking good for stores.

Mark Startup with Shelfspace, the association for retail entrepreneurs, says it also helps that the economy is slowly getting back on track.  "In spite of those conditions in the marketplace, British Columbians are spending more in each month of this year than they spent last year."

He adds that sales continued to go up, year-to-date, even throughout July and August after the HST kicked in.  Startup explains spending in 2010, so far, is up more than six per cent than the year before.
