VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - If you fail to plan, you plan to fail, especially when it comes to holiday gift-giving.  News1130 has some advice for last minute Christmas shoppers on how not to play Santa Claus this year.
Letting the holiday spirit guide you is a recipe for a hefty credit card bill come January, as is buying impulse gifts for yourself.
Dennis Tew with Franklin Templeton Investments recommends taking a page from Jolly Ol' St. Nick's playbook, meaning making a list and checking it twice.  "Making sure you have a good plan before you go out in the stores during the holiday season.  Make the list by person, price it out and do some comparison shopping online.  The Internet is a great way to get ideas and then you can quickly go out and shop."
He also recommends focusing on the holiday experience itself as opposed to trying to achieve, what he calls, "shock and awe under the Christmas tree."
