Updated 9:15 a.m. TransLink said all SFU bus service are back on the road as of 9:10 a.m. Several routes are experiencing delays, however, including the 135's westbound to downtown.
Updated 8:30 a.m. It appears as if the snow caught everyone off-guard, including Environment Canada. The agency just issued a snowfall warning for Greater Vancouver, where snowflakes have already been falling for at least an hour.
About 5 cm of snow expected today, especially for areas of higher elevation and inland section. In downtown Vancouver, wet snow is coming down heavy, but it's not really sticking.
Anyway, this unexpected snowfall isn't going to last long as it's expected to change to rain by the afternoon as it warms up.
135's Westbound to Downtown are running extremely behind schedule right now.
Posted 7:55 a.m. Bus service to SFU has been suspended at this time due to road conditions. There is slushy snow in some areas, especially at higher elevations. But we have an editor at The Province who watched as big, fat flakes coming down at his house in the Main Street area earlier this morning.
There is a report of an accident on Highway 1 westbound in the left lane past Cape Horn.
The Trans-Canada Highway between Golden and Lake Louise reopened Wednesday after being closed since Jan. 14 due to an extremely high avalanche risk. Crews triggered slides to lessen the danger to motorists before reopening the route. This past weekend saw as many as 35 slides in the Kicking Horse Canyon after days of heavy snowfall.
Today's weather: the high will peak at about 5 C and the forecast varies between rain and light rain throughout Thursday. |
