Need to upgrade an old PC and need your input

My uncle like to do photo / video editing but he found that his current computer is very slow. See the spec below:

Windows XP SP3 (32bits)
4GB of RAM
Video Card is ATI Radeon HD 4670
Motherboard is Aus P5KPL-CM (conly can support 4GB RAM MAX)

If I want to help him to save money and upgrade his PC to Windows 7 64 bits, which Motherboard would you recommend to accomdate for his quad core CPU and also alloe him to add more than 8GB of RAM ?

Please kindly advise

CPU is Intel® Core™2 Quad Processor Q6600 (8M Cache, 2.40 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB)

The cpu is decent for home video editing.
You just need more ram.
The computer should not be slow.
Maybe got virus?
Just reformat it, it should be good.

if really want to upgrade, get new mobo to get 8gb ram.

For Video Editing, assuming the application works with extra Ram and Win7 x64, then, just upgrade the OS and Ram

Two things I will suggest that will make the computer at least 2x faster: SSD and Windows 7 upgrade. Use SSD for the boot and the data drive, it should be a huge difference.

That spec is not slow at all, it's Windows XP that you are talking about which does not even take advantage of the newer hardware on the machine. The computer can only recognized 3GB of the 4GB.

Clean install to Windows 7 and see how things goes. Core 2 Quad is kind of sucks because it is not always better when programs can't even use all the cores (especially with Windows XP).

I also suggesting upgrading to 45nm Core 2 Duo/Quad (E7x, E8x, Q9x) as they are slightly faster.

Why upgrade to obsolete Core 2 duo, when the 2nd generation of Core i3/i5/i7 are available?

The computer is already on a Quadcore processor, so the only upgrade is Win7 x64 and RAM
SSD is great, but won't do much for video editing performance, only for system boot, or starting your application.
Pesonally, i am running a OC i7 with 12GB + SSD. on x64 OS  (Server 2k8) in my case.

SSD won't make much difference for video editing.

Reformat and install your windows xp will make the most gain ever.

Nah.. x64 will make a diff. because video editing require lot more RAM to process.  Win7 also has better processor and memory management.

I don't have much video editing expereience.  I am using Pinnacle Studio, and use it to edit my 1080p 5DM2 videos which are in GB per video.
