New, more secure version of the Care Card coming

0 VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - The BC government is going to combine your Care Card with your driver's licence.

The plan is to cut down on health care fraud with beefed up security measures.

Health Minister Mike de Jong says they'll start phasing out the old cards next year. "No additional fee to the public for this. They may, if they wish, eliminate one card from their wallet."

de Jong says Care Cards with added security features will still be available for people who don't have driver's licences.

So how exactly is this gonna work if it is combined with the driver's licence / BC ID card?

As far as I remember, the CareCard is free of charge, isn't it? But you have to pay for the driver's licence / BC ID card.

It all sounds a little screwy and ripoff-like if I suddenly have to pay extra to use that same card as a driver's licence...
