Coquihalla shut down near Merritt
Semi crashed shortly before 6 a.m.

0 MERRITT (NEWS1130) - Emergency crews are on the Coquihalla Highway following a serious semi crash.  It happened near the tourist information booth in Merritt.  The highway is closed in both directions and will remain that way for a few hours.

It accident happened shortly before 6 a.m.

There are reports there were at least two explosions in the truck's trailer.  Environmental crews are there assessing the area for any damage.

It's unclear what type of cargo the truck was carrying and there's no word on the driver's condition.
