Personally, I find it rather difficult to believe that the UK Prime Minister will say something as obviously politically inappropriate as this because they are generally a very well-versed bunch. That is to say, they are generally too smart to say something this stupid. I did a bunch of Google searches just now, and I have not been able to find any newspapers quoting Cameron directly or even describing it in the say manner as what Ming Pao wrote. The closest examples are merely something along these lines:
Prime Minister David Cameron has stated from onset that he will punish those responsible for the UK riots harshly, including but not limited to revoking of any government benefits they now receive, jail time, mandatory community service and possibly deportation for those found to be in the UK illegally.
The direct quote that I keep on repeatedly seeing is:
As to the lawless minority, the criminals who've taken what they can get, I say this: “We will track you down, we will find you, we will charge you, we will punish you. You will pay for what you have done,"’
As the Prime Minister, remarks like these are entirely appropriate. And as you can see, they are significantly different than what the Ming Pao article wrote.
Given the look ups I've done, I have reason to believe that either Ming Pao misinterpreted the meaning of Cameron's quote in the translation, or the editorial staff made a conscious/unconscious decision to write their article like this. Either way, I am sufficiently convinced at this point that Cameron made no mention of intervening the judiciary process, which is what FY boy was barking about.
