Postmedia has launched a new iPhone and iPod touch app for The Vancouver Sun and its other newspapers across Canada including the Province, Calgary Herald, Edmonton Journal, Regina Leader-Post, Saskatoon StarPhoenix, Ottawa Citizen, Windsor Star and the Montreal Gazette. The company first released an app for the iPad and this latest release delivers local, national and international stories along with alerts for breaking news. It links with social networks, with the option to share on Twitter, Facebook or through email. The sections include news, Vancouver, business, sports, entertainment, life and the Canucks.
Dose, iPhone, iPod touch, free
As part of its iPhone apps rollout, Postmedia also launched a Dose.ca app, bringing celebrity and entertainment news to your iPhone or iPod touch. It has sections on movie reviews, music, fashion and celebrity news and gossip.
Band of the Day, free
This popular app gives you a link to emerging and indie artists, sending one band a day to your phone with full songs, videos, interviews and reviews. The band feed goes on for 365 days a year so on any given date, you’ll get a thorough introduction to a new band.

Instagram is a photo and social networking app that has chalked up more than 11 million downloads to date. You can take photos with the app or choose from photos already in your iPhone photo library, add the filter of your choice and move it around to crop it to fit. You can share your photos through a number of social networks including Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, Tumblr and others as well as through email. Like other social networks, you can follow friends, Like photos and invite friends to join you on Instagram.

A remix app from Harmonix, the makers of Rock Band and Dance Central, VidRhythm lets you take video samples that you make, mix them with music and create a mash-up that can be shared on YouTube and other social networks. You start by adding a song from the list of options, pick the style of video you want, record yourself or the sounds and visuals that you want in your remix and sit back to watch the result and share it with friends.
