I tried last night. Yee? Yummy wor... Worth going there at least one, before it closes... 'cause it was very empty.

Ambiance was nice, but it's just very weird in some ways. First, it looks like a red-district-house from the outside, then once you're inside, u'll hear some rather loud, sex-charged background music. It was rather dark, pub-feel, with super bright flat screen TV showing sports.
Not a large selection, 3-courses meal & 4-courses are around $25 to $40. Feel like a dine-out, without the hassle and free parking. The menu was in English and Traditional Chinese (Thank you!) http://www.starry-night.ca/MENUS_DINNER.aspx
Service was ok, by Mandarin speaking people. Since the menu was in Traditional Chinese, I'm guessing they're TW? They spoke English to us, and you can tell they're really trying to keep the service upscale. Plates were warmed, plates are placed carefully with logo on top, etc.
Appetizer from the 4-course meal was those 3 things on 1 narrow plate thing. Abalone mushroom on sesame-oil seaweed, salad with crab meat, and a pan seared scallop. They taste good, but I would really award them with bonus point if they change/update it from time to time, but upon asking the waitress, she said they don't.
Soup was good, comes with fresh bread with butter cream and a roasted garlic. Vegetable soup with a grilled prawn.
- Rib eye steak was flavorful with red wine sauce. Medium rare with charcoal grill marks were cooked to perfection. Tender as expected from a good piece of rib eye steak, without any "soda powder" non-sense.
- Seafood Linguine was yummy as well, served with creamy white sauce, garlic, cheese, onion bits in a flavorful white wine sauce. The pasta was cooked just right. I liked it the most. Seafood wise... some fish, one scallop, some prawns, some squid.
- Pan-seared Halibut was alright, slight taste of butter with the freshness of the sea, on a pineapple infused sauce. This is the smallest dish of the 3.
The mains were pretty good, and it's welcome to see the portion size was generous, unlike most of the fine-dine place which only fill your tummy with bread. They didn't come together. You can tell they were prepared with heart.
Lastly, the dessert was the Traditional Crème Brûlée. Other then the rather thick burnt sugar layer, it wasn't that sweet and heavy. There were a cinnamon-flavored bread stick on top, and pieces of strawberry and kiwi on chocolate sauce on the side. Nice touch.
So yes, overall it was pretty nice. With tips included, it was around $120 for 3. (2 x 4-course + 1 x 3-course meal) |
