Sorry Drew, I don't think I've seen 6.6US Gal jerry can sold locally (not for quite a while).

I'm currently using Septer 20Litre jerry can, and never a problem with them (I take 2 to cross the border to buy gas).

Gas fumes may be an issue but remember this: a properly functioning, sealing plastic jerry can is suppose to seal off any fume leaks (has rubber gaskets also). Any jerry cans missing proper caps and/or sealing gaskets should be disposed of regardless... Any old jerry can (older than 6+yrs old) and not sealing properly should be replaced with new ones.

I typically save about 16bux for 2 car's worth of gasoline while fueling up in Pt Roberts.

(*did that last Saturday, with 40litres of gas to bring home for wifey's camry).

My friend got picked by custom on the 3 jerry cans he had one time.  He got told that the max he allowed to bring back should be 2 cans or $40 worth of gas.  Any over, they could charge tax on.

Is it true that the few gas stations right next to the border (US side) is a bit more expensive than gas stations further south (i.e. near bellis fair)?

yes, that's correct.  Those at Blaine is much closer to Vancouver price.
