modding PS3?

I'm wondering if it is worth while to mod a PS3?  I've been out of the loop from the gaming world for years and would like to buy a PS3 soon.  What are some of the mods available to the PS3 these days?  I want to be able to play Japanese games as well in the future.  However since the machine is not cheap I don't know if I should mess around with it.

No mod for the PS3 at all. Sony took the lesson from the PSP, which it was modded into pieces not too late after it was out. The mandatory firmware update on PS3 makes the console the most secure platform I've seen so far.

There was a mod that is under development by Infectus, which can go back to previous firmware version, but that's pretty much it.

Confirmed with HK Mod expert, no mod required for PS3. Tonnes of game availabe in Hong Kong with price around 70% of cost in BC.

Wii, hard to get the chip to do the mod now. Now play the PS3 in the shop to show off their skill and kill time.

There is NO mod for PS3. Just buy the game.

Thanks for the input.  It's good to know that I don't need mod to play Japanese games.  That's all I needed to know.
