Seems a lot of people point out to contact BBB when there are complaints of poor services received. I personally have not heard of any casese filed or known resolution and outcome.

Does anyone know what the purpose of BBB is and its functionality? Anyone had experience dealing with them and what the outcome is?

A few years ago I've booked some airline ticket for my parents through a travel agency, they charge me more than the agreed price and refuse to refund the difference.  I called BBB and they act as medium and resolve the matter.  So we got our money back.  
Have to say, they are very polite and easy to work with.
