Do you know the take home pay of that $53,000 job is only $3,356 per month? (after federal and provincial income tax, EI and CPP)

That would be like a $20,000 HK dollar a month job in ...

i don't know $20,000hkd is consider good pay or not, i just know some u grad is still earning $10K or less.
people paid $73/mth, which they can take unlimited public transit.  how much do people spend on pubic transit per month in hk.  consider greenhouse effect & traffic congestion, you can ride bike in vancouver, we have bike lanes.  what?  you only find bike lane in taipo?  well, then live & work in taipo, don't go to central la.
we paid ~$150-200cad for our electric bill/month for a 3000sp ft house.  how much do you pay for your 500sq ft unit(building area).
we paid $2500 for property tax which i can dance, jump or sleep on the grass in our front & back yards.  when was the last time you step on the grass.  remember, don't do it in the park, not allowed.
plus, i paid $54/month for my msp, which i can go to see my doctor daily if i want.  "sign"...haven't find a good looking one.  is $54 cad good enough for you to visit your doctor once?

Well, there are lots of social workers in HK ..  Mr. T should ask for help ...

Even poor .. won't die in HK or Van gei ...

電費 .. of course much higher in HK la.... 差晌 is high too ..even 管理费 could be a lots too ..

Unlike most of us, have been living in HK for many years, and also living in Canada for many years ..  Mr. T only had some sad childhood from Canada ..  so he would think HK is a better place to live ..

Just like both my wife and I always love to live in Japan ..  however, when we talked to people in Japan, they love to move to Canada ...

At least, like most other LYK, I take the advantage, being in HK for 1X yr, and Canada for 1X yr .. and I have made the choice to stay here. ( at least for now )

I still feel sad for Mr. T, yeah .. his family and himself had some bad experience from "WHITE" people ... and he has NO CHOICE .. sigh ..

Hmm.. what is the median salary in HK anyways? I think it's 40~50k CAD in Canada, probably higher for BC, and even higher for Vancouver? I think average household income is actually like 80k or something...? Someone should confim and shouldn't quote me for it, cuz my memory fails all the time... sigh.

BG, Median income in HK .. probably $10K HKD la .... yes,lots of people are making $million/day ... but ...

Average income in Canada, ( say Calgary/Vancouver ) is much higher for sure .. but higher exexpense too ... ( just met 2 guys have many Ferrari/Lambo .. but they are not Mr. H nor Mr. T .. lol )

你唔好用加拿大4000呎大屋做例子﹐你用一個700尺apartment同香港一個700尺單位比較。Vancouver平均電費$20CAD(電爐+正常一個禮拜隔日洗衫乾衣)﹐你冬天晚晚開heat都係頂多$30幾。香港如果你用乾衣機+夏天日日開冷氣﹐你張電費單起碼千幾二千。都莫講話你用媒氣爐﹐過時過節蒸糕﹐都過千一張單。

Utilities係一定香港貴十倍﹐你唔好同我拗。

你囉住$5000CAD人工﹐對好多加拿大人嚟講﹐你已經做得起yuppies。扣稅後三千幾夠你租個downtown單位﹐供部萬鬆D蚊二手車﹐閒時去到旅行。慳慳哋唔住咁貴﹐幾年可以買樓。

你囉住二萬蚊港銀﹐你唔洗指意住中環﹐但係都夠你租個平平哋﹐舊舊哋單位。不過已經無左半份量。之後只係日日逼地鐵同巴士﹐要買樓﹐真係除左天水圍之外真係唔洗諗。

But it also depends on your usage.

Your one bedroom condo apartment maybe only uses $20 CAD a month in Summer. In Winter, it is $40 to $60 a month.

所以咪話唔公道囉﹐你用3-4千尺屋嘅水電同香港幾百尺去compare﹐鬼唔知開支大咩。但係你享受到3-4千尺嘅地方﹐有五個房﹐三個廳﹐四個廁所又點計?

我用一般單生人士計法最公道﹐因為你如果得3千幾CAD一個月﹐我諗唔會買間800K嘅大屋囉。

你要比﹐就要比較差唔多生活方式﹐唔好厚此薄彼。

我一路係講緊可能二十出頭﹐租樓人士作例子。因為我假設LYK會員大多fall into呢個 category。

首先﹐租一個一房單位﹐downtown係$1200-1400 (當然有D仲平﹐有D仲貴﹐但係平均呢個數唔好執著極端例子OK?)﹐但係已經連parking﹐連一般會所設施。同埋我想講﹐租屋﹐係唔洗俾management fee架, excuse me。我當你想買部二手車﹐真係一萬留下都有。再唔係二手200X年mini/ smart(一般20多歲年輕人喜愛嘅車種)都係皮幾。若然你有5皮一年﹐你係絕對有能力儲到錢買。每個月都係俾百幾autoplan﹐假設呢個例子你住downtown基本上唔洗點渣﹐for pleasure only。

但係呢個lifestyle﹐係揾港紙二萬蚊一定達唔到。

呢個就係我個point。你話你年薪一百萬﹐又係另一個題目。呢個topic係"$53000 job!"﹐我覺得呢個數對一般單生貴族喺Vancouver好好洗。

how much rent for a 700sq ft apartment in vancouver downtown, well, much cheaper than the one in hk downtown(central)
how much do i pay for management fee, but my management fee includes gas wor, does yours.
i don't know which jobs are offering $20K/mth.  however doctors who work for govn't hospital are earning $45K+/mth and they are going to get a pay cut soon.  have you read the news? wow from $45K
how much we pay for utilities? But what about people who live in HOUSES in hk?  probably you won't even able to find out.
How do you know those new and expensive cars at Aberdeen Centre are not used cars.  used cars don't mean crap & old wor.  i can pay the honda civic price for a benz wor, why i still want to drive a honda civic ar.
forgot to tell you, even we need to pay the hst, our lv & gucci are still cheaper than hk.
please compare apple to apple. same quality of life

Just read some news lately .. so many people can't afford to see doctor in HK ..  so many can't even afford food and shelter ..

Many $100million house/appartment in HK too ...  but ..  ~1% of 8,000,000 people?
