People goto Whistler for the outdoor activities, I think. Eating, you can do that in Vancouver, Richmond for cheaper, no? I went to Whistler about 5 times and the things I tried are biking, hiking, camping, photography, riding the gondola to the top. There's the new peak to peak ride which I think you should try. My brother said it was fantastic.

summer time, just hiking

i went for a whistler weekend trip over the summer.

day 1: ziptrek at noon, then lunch at the village, then tour around whistler village and check in hotel at 4pm as that's the usual check in time. then atv at around 6pm. the atv package included a 3-course french meal at a golf course restaurant.

day 2: rafting at noon, then walk/hike around cougar mountain, then headed home in the evening.

the ziptreking was really fun. freaky in the beginning, but it felt awesome while ziplining through the forest. there are 5 lines. each line is no more than 45 seconds. but the whole trip will take 2-2.5 hours because it's one person at a time. each group will have 8-10 people. don't forget you have the record button ON and keep it ON if you plan to video tape the whole experience. i definitely recommend it. and i plan on doing it again during the winter time when we get the snow.

the atv was fun too. this is my 2nd time trying out the atv. you can choose from beginner to intermediate to experience levels. you'll get really dusty and dirty afterwards. you'll be riding through mud peddles, going uphill to see the view from top down, going through the forest.... even though you'll get a overall suit and boots and mask to cover up your nose and mouth, but i won't recommend it if you're very allergic/sensitive to dust or afraid of dirt. depending on which route you choose, it's always a bumpy ride. you'll be controlling your cat with your thumb at where the handle is. be ready to get a very tired or maybe even sore thumb after the ride!

rafting is pretty much the same as the other ones throughout vancouver. every river is different and i wanted to try it out at this particular location. if you have previous rafting experience, this will be no stranger to you.

as for whistler village, there's lots you can do... have an ice-cream cone at cows. have a beer with nachos at the patio at any one of the restaurants. listen to live music. you can always dine at the araxi restaurant at whistler. araxi is famous because the winner of hell's kitchen season 6 will win the prize as a head chef for this restaurant over the 2010 winter olympics.

the peak to peak gondola is new which i haven't been to. so i can't commend on that one.

as for the hotel, i booked my through the whistler website and went with the last minute hot deal. the rate i got was $69 plus tax. i stayed at whistler village inn and suites. the room was the suite with a full kitchen.

cost per person turned out to be $350-$400 for 2 days which included all activities, hotel accommodation, food, gas, tax, everything.

first pic: the guy in red is the teacher. you'll step down to the 3rd step and then off you zip away...

second pic: where you'll be while ziplining through the forest. i paint-brushed the zipline in magenta. and it really is that high.

our atv group had a total of 7 people plus one teacher. this is located at the high point at cougar mountain. we parked the cats and had pictures with the postcard-like whister background

this is the 3-course meal included in the atv package. drinks and gratuity are extra

caesar salad
tomato soup
braised beef
grilled salmon
chocolate fudge cake
berry sorbet

tiffiant 發表於 2009-8-30 21:16

the 3-course meal was included in the atv package already. so i didn't have to pay extra for the dinner unless you order drinks. gratuity is always on top, of course.

as for the cost of food in general at whistler village... i don't think they are that expensive unless you go to araxi or any other fine dining restaurants. if you want to eat cheap, you can always order pizza (oven baked) or burgers or hotdogs etc. and there's always old spaghetti factory.

i tried ATV, rafting, and monkido!

i picked monkido over the zip-treking because it was cheaper..
but it was so hard for me because i don't do any sort of sports..

but it was very fun.

walking across swinging logs...  rolling balls..
and there was one.. where u gotta grab to a rope and swing yourself accross to another side..
and then "hit" a net, and try to grab on to the net & then climb up to another tree.. [img][/img]

haha~ i actually did go to bearfoot and had caribou meat... quite an experience... but honestly not sure if it worth the price...
i would say take the gondola up to the peak and do a hike.... it's quite scenic up there... there are also the different lakes you can go around and just sort of relax...
and also depending on the day you go, there are different events up in whistler... like sunday they have farmer's market at the base of blackcomb mountain...
