Metrotown Superstore has a sign at the entrance saying they'll be open 24 hours from Dec 4-23, 2009

Yes Walmart did at least last year.  The one in New West. Queensbrough landings.
Open 24-hr is a good idea.  People don't need to jam together.
I support this.  Staff takes shift so it won't be overwork for them.

I think superstore did this last year too. Do not know if Metrotown one will do the same since the mall must be closed after midnight...

only superstore will open for 24 hours in dec 2009. they did the same thing last year too. and it applied to metrotown/richmond/vancouver marine drive superstores last year. will have to check their website to confirm hours of operation as it hasn't been updated yet.

it won't be a problem with metrotown superstore as they have their separate entrances. they will fence off the area to prohibit people from entering into the mall when the mall is closed, just like the applicable areas to the theatres.

and i'm pretty sure superstore will be closed on xmas day justl like any other stores

At night time, they also have staffs working. They only need two more cashier working overnight.
For sure the supermarket will make money.

get much higher pay than cashiers; and there must be a supervisor
on duty at all time too. How about janitors?

4 men security seems too high. They only need someone to watch the exits and to call mall security in case of trouble. Other employees will also watch for trouble inside, including janitors who are already working night shifts anyway.

Do you know that if you hire someone to move a piano, you have to pay for 3-4 movers?
according to the WCB and union agreement. Superstore is an union shop.

There's union rules but there's also common sense.

A normal person would notify the manager or security that a shoplifter is in the store. any decent person would do the right thing. I know I would.

They trust the technology, that is the reason only 1 security guard
standing at the exit as bouncer, the rest of the team watch the monitors closely.
One or two staff cannot patrol the 50,000 sq.ft. while they have stealth
cameras set up for almost every aisle.
It is not common sense, it is the fact, I know people work for
the security firm working on their contract.
