Let's share any 環保 thing that you do to help out the environment?

Let me start first. Basically I am not too 環保 ...
I bring my own bag to go shopping 50% of the time, and 80% of light bulb in my house are changed to energy saving ones. And recycle all paper (make sure they are in the blue box) and bottle goes to bottle depot.
Computer, I power off after use.

1. donate my clothes
2. turn off computer if it's not downloading or in use
3. use e-billing, cut down paper invoice
4. recycle bottles, papers, old computer parts, broken dvd players
5. bike to work
6. unplug any electronics that are not in use
7. buy recycled paper products

I tried biking to work for a few days 2 summers ago... just too dangerous.
I do:
1. donate my clothes and household items still in good shape
2. buy green products if available (e.g. house hold cleaning items)
3. buy local organic vegetable and meat if possible
4. pick locally made products over some that's shipped from far away (e.g. local craft works as gifts)
5. buy organic fair trade items (coffee, fair trade cotton t)
6. Educate myself and others (read books, online info..etc)

There is one time I bought an expensive dish washing detergent...but that one has no "bubble"....always have the feeling that it can't clean the greese...and my hubby tend to use more ... so at the end after using up that bottle I stop buying ...

which "green" cleaning item you recommend?

Raise some roosters instead of alarm clock,
work-out at home instead of going to gym,
turn down the heat at night
Go to bed earlier
Give up Plasma TV and fancy audio/video system, Home Theatre

One thing that works really well on a several different fronts is to simply turn down your thermostat at home. Wear some socks, put on an extra sweater or something, and set your thermostat to 17C or 18C. Not only will you be saving energy, you'll also save on your gas/electric bill. Plus the lower temperature means the indoor air wouldn't be as dry, and that'll probably be a major bonus esp for the ladies.

So they kill one of my chicks...

and made stew chicken with chestnut (my fav but I didn't eat any)

1. Bring my own bag
Yes I try my best to use my own bags except sometimes I bought more than I expect, so guilty

2.  Recycle (paper, bottle, etc.)

3.  Power off light/computer when not use
My house is very dim and using energy saving bulb. But I cannot turn of my computer at night because of my job, thats too bad....

6.  Use energy saving bulb.
All energy saving now, and why not, save a lot on my bill

7.  Donation

What else I'm doing now:

- bring my own take out box and my coffee mug.... haha can I use my own bowl when eating at food court?!?!
- I'm now using biodegradable waste bags for my dog, and I am planning to fundraise waste bags next year so that more people can help the environment, not sure how much I could get but I will try my best.
- Eat more veggie and less meat, i guess that at least help a bit when I cannot afford a 100% organic life lol
- Lower the thermostat, mine now is 17 degrees

Hope to do in the future:
- I hope I can get an IH induction range, when the price is lower, and more models to choose from =P
- I hope I can change all light bulbs to LED, I saw them in Japan but they are 5000yen per bulb WOW
- I hope I can turn off the A/C when I'm driving, but this could be difficult! But I already promised myself I will never turn on the AC at home since this summer, but then I turned it on once, only once lol
- I hope I can turn off the computer at night after all projects are done~

I want to have LED as well....I saw in the Home show and it's $30 each....
I have to say I can't afford it for the whole house...

Computer...actually if I don't BT I think I can power off sooner... but too bad BT takes so long time then I have to leave computer on for days... >_<

I have my thermostat at 18-20. But I know my window and door are quite 漏風, one day when I have the budget I will change to better window and thus having better insulation.

I brought my own set of cutlery and chopsticks to Japan too!!! I guess I should do it here too, you just reminded me....

You know what's it's not the first time I heard of parents cooking the kid's pet!

Yes I just ordered a whole box of biodegradable bags, I will be so excited if you can join me for the fundraising too!! Let's chat for details on msn then... I am still thinking which organization I should donate the money too, maybe you can give me some ideas too, that will be awesome!!!

not too good.
1.  never remember to bring my own bag, but lucky, mostly shop at costco these days
2.  using energy saving bulbs in 70% of our house
3.  recycle bottles, paper & all electric parts
4.  donate whatever we don't need
5.  lower temperature in our house(actually not because 環保, just can't stand for the heat)
6.  buy local fresh greens & meats
7.  refuse any unneeded wrapping or give the shop back any unneeded packages(e.g. shoe boxes)
8.  use mp3 instead of cds, use external hard drive instead of dvds & not to print photo or simply not take any photo.

Maybe eat more organically grown fruits and vegetables.
External harddrives are cheap now. It is actually more convenient than burning data onto CDs.
Drive a hybrid car, or even better, ride a bicycle.
Like Lik said, we should all be using LED lights instead of CFL. He bashed the Hong Kong government for not recommending LED lights.

Use less cosmetics and perfumes which contain all kinds of chemicals.

其實我覺得Canada無乜嘢特別叻，但係環保意識都算數一數二。好多街邊，商場嘅垃圾筒都有分類俾人recycle嘢，美國呢方面真係做得少好多，我都係最近先開始係Seattle機場見到分類垃圾筒。

some suggestions:

grow some green plants in your room
do shower instead of tub bath
travel by bus if possible (although the bus service is hopeless)

In Taiwan, for the home garbage, each household needs to separate garbage into three different category, one for plastic stuff and one for take-out box and another one for recycling stuff.

最多可選 5 項, not enough.

1 recycle paper, bottles
2 donate clothes, toys, computer, cellphone, electronics if I can't sell them.
3 or leave unwanted items in the backlane for people to take (with the sign FREE)
4 switch to LED lights gradually, buy 1 a month is easier on the wallet.
5 turn off lights when not in use
6 bring my own grocery bag
7 energy efficient appliances
8 install new windows
9 high efficiency furnace
10 buy green products, organic food
11 drink tapwater
12 turn off computer, monitor, printer
13 full duplex printer to print both sides
14 use public transit as much as possible
15 use a ebook reader to d/l books instead of reading paper book, magazine, etc.

These Japanese generate more than 1/3 of their electricity using nuclear power, which produces a lot of toxic wastes. They should be using solar power instead. Most of them are not using hybrid cars.

I was only impress that they allow recycling of the sterofoam container/packing (e.g. use for packing meat/fruits in supermarkets).
BUT they over use packaging and create so much unnecessary garabage....
I won't agree if u said in general Japanese are doing a good job to protect the env.

agree agree, I found that Japanese they are so good at recycling because they produce more than average waste:

1. Too much fancy wrapping and bags.
2. Unnecessary packaging like giving you one ice pack (or even all you can take) if you buy fresh seafood or meat in supermarket
3. They get used to buying pet bottle drinks from vending machines
4. Giving out flyers everywhere
