What do you think Vancouver would have become after the Olympics? housing market crash, construction boom gone, more immigrants coming or whats??? I know our city is in deep debts, they get their police to ticket more, put parking meters everywhere..whats everyone's predictions?
作者: Catpiano    時間: 2010-1-13 09:27

Hopefully, not as bad as Montreal.
作者: siumaibb    時間: 2010-1-13 10:04

deep debts?......I wonder how much $$ went into those politicians' pocket......

I don't think people's lives will be affected anyway, I feel like Vancouver people don't care much about price going up, tax going up....they still enjoy their lives like before..........

because many people are in union

tax up -> price -> union on strike to ask more wages -> in order to cover those extra cost, price up -> other union on strike -> other price up ->  endless...

Human beings are very resilient.  No matter how high taxes are, they just bear it and work harder.

I like your point.
Too many people only focus on small stuff and turn their eyes blind to the truly devastating possibilites.

I heard some people tried to compare Winter Olympic 2010 with Expo 86 which was also held in BC (Vancouver). The overall economy grew and immigrants increased after the Expo 86. They see Olympic as a way to promote the province/city.

But Expo 86-"The final cost of the fair ended up being CDN $8 million under budget." woh...
Aren't we over budget for Winter Olympic 2010?

I think I'm the oldest Vancouverite in LYK, I witness the evolution of Vancouver from 1977 to present.
Before Expo 86, Vancouver was like what Surrey is right now, everything was so behind compared to the
other major cities of the world.  Likewise, the NDPers  lead by then mayor Harcourt vowed to do everything
in their power to strike down the event and the Sky Train(then ALRT), for the sake of people in poverty.
History proved that Vancouverwoke up after Expo 86 and become  much more competitive and advanced.
Just imagine what Vancouver would be without the Sky Train. I will never give NDP a mandate..

If all NDP politicians can work for free, I would probably consider them.  But receiving a great salary in the name of helping the poor? just sick and pretentious.

At least the Liberals are open about helping the Rich, and there's nothing wrong with that.  If you think Campbell's salary is too high, try to get into his position so you can make an equally good salary instead of whining about it when you have a shxt job.

I witnessed how Bob Rae ran Ontario to the ground in the early 90s.

I also witness the 10 years of hell in BC.

I told my wife, I don't care how cold it is, I'll go to Alberta if the NDP is elected.

I don't like Campbell.  But I won't give my vote to the NDP either.

(Gabriel Yew, trust me, I turn off the radio whenever you speak on 1470)

I have to agree with you this time,
I was about to move to Alberta last BC Election.
I just hate Gabriel on radio, he is so pretentious, after all, who can trust a politician swung from Reform to NDP,
keep bragging that the Glen Clark administration was the best BC ers can even hope for.
What is Clark doing now? making money  for the filthy multi-billionaire he loved  to hate, LOL

Absolutely.  People with top 10% of income pay over 60% of taxes.  So to those who complain that the rich people are making too much money, ask yourself what contribution you have done to the society.
