Scanner is old technology, unless you are into scanning photo for professional use (like anything above 300dpi), any scanner that is around $150-$200 will scan decently. Don't blindly believe the advertised resolution, they are "optimized" and not the actual resolution.
Scanners in all-in-one is fine, they suck because people leave them at AUTO. By going into advanced settings, you can adjust quite a lot of things to produce the better output.

i've tried to set the finest quality at a all-in-one HP scanner but it still suck compare to my friend's old canon scanner. 作者: MiGkYo 時間: 2007-12-1 09:46
meself i like epson alot! most of the industry does use epson as their professional scanners... their scanners can rate from $150-$4000 and up...
I would suggest u to get a flatbed individually... most of the flatbed from epson can scan slide photos too! (or this is an options to get the gears...)
I have an old epson flatbed... it has been 5 yrs? still working fine and nicely!
also, u should also use your printer as the same brand as the scanner...
so the color collaboration matches!
I use epson products and love it to death... thou it sucks alot of inks... but the color is just very nice
Since I am the printer guy here, I can summarize all the brands as follows:
Kodak - New in the market, new technology, not sure how long they will last in the consumer market.
Lexmark - The BEST in laser printer.
HP - Well rounded, multi-purpose machines
Canon - The best technology for photo at decent price
Epson - The best photo output at a very high ink cost, print head tend to jam a lot
Brother - simply a piece of garbage (laser and inkjet), disposable printers
My preference is still the Canon MP series. The MP610 is also Eco-friendly (Google EcoSense) and it's very good.
