I have a friend who has the older model Corolla XRS, I believed the reason he got it was the VVTL-i engine that found only in the Celica (which is discontinued), it is a Corolla, so he said parts are dirt cheap for OE and aftermarket parts.

Yes, it does drive like a Corolla, but you will know the difference with the VVTL kicks it. Not too long after he got the car (like 3 months), he got new rims/tires/shocks/springs/bars and it is quite nice and fast.

The new Hyundai are a bargain, they are built and look well (even better than most Japanese). Although I agree that Hyundai copies styles from other manufacturers and blend them together, but they are doing a much better job.

Hyundai have higher reliability and durability than Toyotas for the last 3 years.
Unless you are stuck into history, you should take another look and compare the 2 companies cars report.

Toyota has been milking on its reputation for the last 10 years and start to fall.
The new sonata is great looking for its class, look at the new camry, it looks like crap.

Anyways, the Genesis coupe is best bang for the buck, the torque is crazy, it's like a small V8 @ 2000 rpm, man.

My gf has a Hyundai Tucson, she has least little problems (such as TSBs) than my 1st gen Mazda3.

I went to OpenRoad Hyundai with her a few times and we get excellent service in both service and sales department.

One thing I have to agree is that Hyundai is still an Hyundai, the resell value is not comparable to Japanese brands. But when you buy a car, you plan to drive it or flip it?

Genesis is good but the torque isn't crazy (2.0T).  You want cheap and fast, drive a Mazdaspeed3 or Cobolt SS!

Look at this: http://www.consumerreports.org/c ... bility-findings.htm

"The major Japanese brands and South Korea'sHyundai and Kia make plenty of reliable vehicles. Of the 48 models withtop reliability scores, 36 were Asian. Toyota accounted for 18; Honda, eight; Nissan, four; and Hyundai/Kia and Subaru, three each.

On the whole, Japanese vehicles areconsistently good. All Hondas and Acuras were average or above. Toyota, with its Lexus and Scion brands providing a broader product range, hadjust one vehicle that was below average in reliability, the Lexus GSAWD. "

作者: pkphilip    時間: 2010-3-13 22:26

Don't use consumer report as they are very brand biased. Even they claim they shop independently, but they review everything that we buy, I won't trust a source that doesn't know deep enough. That goes the same with their computer/printer reviews, they don't know crap about reliability.

Go for Edmunds.com for review, you will see both the users and professional tests. Edmunds did the tests themselves and I find them more reputable than consumer report.

The Genesis is RWD,  MS3, GTI and Cobalt SS are FWD. You can't even get most of the torque out of the first 2 gears anyways.

This only shows the consumers are accepting Hyundai quality. These people cross shop between Japanese and Korean cars. The fact that they are shifting to Hyundai from Japanese brands shows you Hyundai's reliability has been catching up with and surpassing that of the Japanese.
GM, Ford, Chrysler are regarded as domestic cars so people in North America still buy them, not because they are more reliable.

"According to the survey, Honda and Toyota continue to have the most reliable vehicles, but Ford is very close behind. The magazine said Ford’s performance in the survey “dispels the notion that only Japanese manufacturers make reliable cars.”"

Edmunds did reliability tests?  For how long did they own the car for?  Even C&D or R&T's (??) long-term tests are way too short.  Forum reviewers are a joke sometimes, like some we have here.  Not you ok.

Yes Genesis is RWD so what?  It's no match for MS3 and Cobalt on track either.  Yes MS3's full torque is limited in first two gear to about 240 (not sure 100%), but still more than Genesis.  Anyhow, to say a car is fast or not you just don't look at hp and torque alone.  I'm not saying Genesis is a bad car, but what I mean is that it doesn't have CRAZY torque.  Some company is trying to make a turbo kit for the Genesis 2.0 and hopefully to bump it up to 300hp.  Apparently, some guy said that it's engine block/head/etc is basically the same as the Lancer EVO; manufactures shared development.  If that's true then it's a different story!

Ford is better than GM and Chrysler. At least Ford did not need to borrow money from the US government. Ford cars are cheap as well.
Hyundai is now the 4th largest car maker in the world. People buy Hyundai because it is reliable, in addition to affordable.
Some people think that the Hyundai Genesis was designed using the BMW 5 series as the benchmark.

Some car critics think the Hyundai Genesis is better than BMW 5 series.

IMO Hyundai stole a lot of customers by the styling of their vehicles, which took bits and pieces from other designer's work.  Styling is a very important factor in addition to price and reliability.

The Genesis sedan is a good car for its price; I have no objection to that.  Even if it's "better" than the 5 series, people will still pay more to buy the BMW because Hyundai is Hyundai.

Honda cars are getting more expensive and their styling is going downhill big time!  Look at the new line of Acura.  Acuras used to sell like hot cakes in the 90's and early 00's.

You need to understand that the number of people who can afford a German car is way less than the number who can afford a Hyundai.  Selling more doesn't necessarily mean it's better you know.  OK OK...I know you will say China cars will out sell Korean cars in the near future...LOL  Actually, as a Chinese I'm waiting for that day too!

hahaha, don't laugh, Chinese designed and made cars may soon outsell Korean cars if not already.
China's car market is already the world's largest and grew at 50% in 2009. They made about 13.83 million cars in 2009 (both foreign and local). I am not sure, how many of that was made by local Chinese brand names. But assuming 30% of that was made by Chinese brand names, that was already over 4.6 million cars. Hyundai probably made about 5 million cars in 2009. Of course, you can say we cannot buy Chinese cars here yet. But they do export to some other developing countries.

Compare MS3 with Genesis Coupe is worthless, $33k vs $25k.
On the other hand, Cobalt SS is a closer comparison, $27,995 MSRP vs $25k, about 10% more.  Cobalt SS is good deal as well, supercharged  260  @ 5,300.Torque 260 @ 2,000, vs
hp 210 @ 6,000 torque 223 @ 2,000.  On paper, Cobalt SS is better deal in number wise.  I heard Cobalt SS is really fast as well in real world driving.  In terms of look and trust in reliability, I would prefer Genesis coupe, but that's my preference.   And I would still suggest Genesis coupe to OP instead of Cobalt, because it's closer price to what the OP intend to spend.  Spend another 10% on top of Genesis is stretching too far.

The new Mustang 2011 is a monster in Performance / Price too.  But you need to consider, 6.99% finance.  That's quite high, and adds to the price and make it more expensive that Genesis Coupe.  Also, you need to take a look of the ****ness of seat, interior and look.

So, can you tell me what's the best look, performance, reliable car is around $30k after everything included at 60 months finance?  The XRS should be around 26k to 27k after everything.

In case anyone is curious...numbers are out...the 2011 Mustang V6 does 0-60 in 5.1s and 1/4 mile in 13.7s.  For a 25k car, that's fantastic!  With a 2k GT package, this thing has 0.96g lateral acceleration and 104 ft braking from 60-0, which beats the M3!

Btw, the V8 version can do 0-60 in 4.3 and 1/4 miles is a whopping 12.8s!  Mind you these cars are not even turbo/supercharged yet!!!
