Yes my boss said one person was laid off one year ago by one of our clients and that person still could not find job. Why? Because he did not want to get into job with lower pay.

This sums it up. Some people just want to keep the status quo and would never admit the reality.

My experience is that employers don't mind, unless they are looking for someone who's willing to commit long term.
But in today's world, if your job is not that great to begin with, very few people would want to stick around.

Yeah...if you have a degree, i don't think the employer will hire you to do fastfood or cashier.  It is because they know you will leave very soon.

Sometimes reality doesn't give people a chance.

Let's not talk about fastfood or customer service jobs, coz a degree is useless in these positions.

If your job doesn't require too much training, why would it bother you that your hire would leave very soon? (Well, I don't mean weeks, but let's say half a year).  If I were an employer, I would rather hire someone who can do the job well for 6 months rather than someone who makes tons of mistakes but is willing to stay long.  Stability is important, but if you got someone who's not doing a great job, what's the point of keeping the person anyway.

You have to realize that there's a big difference in ability among hires.  Say you have two candidates, person A who's willing to stay for 10 years and person B who's only willing to stay for 6 months.  Person A makes mistakes regularly and there's no reason to expect that he/she would improve significantly.  Person B is bright and very efficient and can do two people's jobs at once.  Which one would you pick?

can ppl hide their qualifications at interview? he can claimed that he is only secondary graduate if he really want the job... his problem is 尊嚴 as he said in another article.

if a 29 yrs old but haven't got anything to eat for 4 days, he definitely should be responsible himself, so sad

how can you tell a person will makes mistakes regularly and won't able to improve during the interview ar?  of course, in your case, i will pick person b.
if it is just a simple job, the employer will more look for the one who can do the job and likely will stay for a long time.  if you are over qualified, you are just seeing this job as temporary and keeping looking for another one, so you may stay for 6 months but you may stay for a week.   you are smart, but you may not do a great job, since this is not the job that you want.

There are in fact people who are not taking cut in their salary when trying to find a job.  They were used to get that much pay and they rather stayed home and collected EI.

yes, but not for all, if you are kind of fresh grad, you need to explain to your employer what you are doing in those years.
if your next employer do a reference check and called your former employer then both employers find out that you lied.

he should responsible for himself, since he is an adult.  but still....

Yes, there are so many factors that you can't determine at the interview.  That's why I think it's absurd to reject someone just because he's "overqualified".  A misfit can do more damage than someone who does a good job for 6 months and move on.  Most jobs require less than half a week of specific training.  Such overhead is pretty minimal.

why I feel so sad for him? $54 HKD is less than $10 CAD and he still don't have it, it's really like a typical " 輓個錢括沙都無 ", isn't it sad?   why he can't find some 體力努動 job? or sell something in their house, for example? and an adult doesn't have anything to eat for 2 days, it is quite unbelievable in nowaday's HK, he should go to some charity like 保良局 or food bank etc.

其後公司出一半學費,讓我到IVE(香港專業教育學院)讀機電文憑。

i don't think
it is from the taxpayer's money, if the applicant ever paid any tax, i don't think it is shameful to apply.   unless that guy decides to live his life on EI forever...but i don't think the system allows that anyway.

what about his grandma? he eats nothing and also tell grandma not to eat anything? to feed his 骨氣﹖starve grandma to die? as the judge said: now you have committed crime, isn't it more 無尊嚴?

I agreed with yuusaku, 唔申請尊嚴 is not equal to 有骨氣﹐有骨氣 should try his every best to find a job, take up the responsibily to feed the family. 所謂大丈夫能屈能伸﹐甚麼工都應該做,even with very humble salary or 出賣努力. And also EI or welfare is a system that we are qualify and eligible to get, esp EI, we have contributed every month from our hard earned money, I will definitely apply if I need to, why not?

we shouldn't reject someone just because he's overqualified, but we prefer the one just fit the job. and there is no guarantee the overqualified person will stay for 6 months or longer.  they may find another job next week.  the training may need a week or so, but it takes time for a newbie become experienced person.   posting a job/interview a person cost time & money too.
