Any recommendations as to where to rent nice/modern wedding gown and evening dresses? Roughly what are the prices? Thanks!

Most of the wedding shops are in Richmond.  Some shops only rent "used" gowns, or very high price for new gowns.  Here are some: 老查 is an option, Ora needs to pay deposit before trying on (I heard of), or 紅娘's another one.. ohoh, and the new place.. iwed, most of their dresses are new, you can try too.

Well, originally I was debating on whether to rent wedding gown here or to buy one in HK...
I went to HN wedding couple weeks ago and had a quick look on their gowns, seemed nothing special there, and not a lot of selections either... and everyone in their pics picked the same style! I have my own photographer so really I just need to find a dress and evening gown.

If it costs $400+ to rent a gown here, I wonder if it's a better deal for me to buy one in HK instead? My only concern is the time it takes to make one (or find one off the rack if I'm lucky)... and I don't really know which shops in HK that sells decent looking gowns

You can also check out David's Bridal in States, like a bridal superstore. My friend got a decent gown for 300USD.

As for buying gown...there are also another cost involved.
e.g. alteration. It can be around $100 - $200...
and Dry clean ...also around $100

Some people criticized me that I didn't finish using the whole package, so I wasn't qualified to give Ora/Lisange positive comment. My friend is going to get married in the beginning of July using Ora, and I will be the Maid of Honor. I will be able to experience the whole process this time.......... so far, their service is okay.

right, 改細 was the exact problem that my friend had... they said they can order her the right size and when she tried it on... it wasn't the right size, so she demand them to order her size (which they promised when they paid the deposit)... they keep saying what they have is the right size and it can be 改細 to fit....
my friend went and try out the SAME style at a gown shop for the RIGHT size.. and it fitted much much better...

well, at the end they did order that for her but she went through a lot of trouble and emotional moments lor....

我唔係要幫 Ora 或者任何人講說話, 佢地做得 Sales 的, 為左想做你生意, 就梗係話乜都得架啦. 個 Bride 著住條嫁裙, 就算唔 arm 身, 俾 D Sales tum 兩 tum, 乜理智都無晒. 到後來有問題咪 freak out lor. 好似我個 friend 甘, 試衫試到乜都唔記得, 我作為伴娘, 咪去同 Ora 搞清楚D費用 lor. 見到其實條裙跟本唔 arm 著, 咪提下佢 lor........... 我唔識你個 friend, 但睇其他 PO, 其實兩邊都有責任. 或者跟本就係其他茂吉上來抹黑人. 大家玩左 LYK 甘多年, 都知咩事啦!

我睇到有個 PO, 鬧百合仙子唔囉條裙俾師傅改, 笑死我............ "我地鋪頭自己幫你改" 同 "我搵師傅改" 其實跟本就係同一個人改, 哈哈............ 嬲得幾無謂!

你話我抹黑又好乜都好，我就未聽過百合先子同ora好，但系我知道有一間影婚禮既一年內接左佢地三個客手尾，因為仙子影到啲pre-wedding好吾掂，呢3個客吾敢比佢地做個wedding day仲一肚氣。

Anyway做生意信用好重要，就算LYK冇人講你估d人吾知堅料定抹黑咩。有d野發生左好多年，當時分分鐘LYK都未有！

My personal experience in terms of alteration wasn't that great with them too.  I ordered and bought a brand new wedding gown from them, and 4 pieces of bridesmaid dresses, and they told me that I will get free alterations on my wedding gown and bridesmaid dresses, since I bought 5 dresses in total, and also I bought quite a large pre-wedding package from them.  And just about 2 months before my wedding, all the dresses finally arrived.  As for my wedding dresses, there isn't much alteration needed, except the length was a little long, but my dress has a lot of beading at the bottom, so its quite a lot of work to alter it.  So she promised me to send it for alteration.  And 2 weeks later, when I went and picked it up, IT WAS NOT ALTERED!  she kept telling me that it had been altered.  BUT come on, I'm not stupid, and I had the same shoe on, and the wedding gown is so obvious that its too long that I might step on it and trip.  So the dress wasn't altered at all, it was still the same as before.  So I had to argue with her and tell her that this is not what I wanted.  And she kept giving me excuses and said it couldn't be too short otherwise it will look ugly etc etc, and that it had been altered.  Anywayz, so she promised me to send it out for alteration again.  And believe me or not, when it comes back, it is still the same.  I was so pissed, so I just took the wedding gown and went to another lady to help me alter, as I do not even want to deal with them anymore.

So as for my 4 bridesmaid dresses.  They initially told me that alterations are included.  And actually 2 of my bridesmaid needed the alteration, and the other 2 don't need any alterations.  So I went to the store with 2 of my bridesmaid.  NOW, she is telling me that she can only help me alter their length, and can't help me alter the width.  SO I asked her, then why did you told me before that all the alterations are included?  And now its NOT!  She said she can only help me alter length, as she thinks the width of the dress fits fine on my bridesmaids.  But the both of them agreed that the dress were too loose.  We argued and argued!  She kept saying that i need to pay an extra $40/dress if I think the dress were too loose on them.  And finally I was so pissed, and I just threw her $80 on the counter and I left, and I told her you better do your job well with this freaking extra $80.  I really hate dealing with them.  

I have to agree the photograph they took was not bad, but in terms of customer service (after you pay deposit, or after you 'wash wet your hair', then its POOR!"

well, I think so far the problems with their service were related to the dress. So if you don't need alternation and already have a nice fitting dress from their rental or have your own dress, I think you will be fine.

This is the problem. My friend was silly enough to pay knowing that she didn't like any of the gowns that they had in stock and believe that they will order a new one from the catalog that fits her later on.
She didn't pick any dress when she paid. I guess she was too trusting...

Yes, the main problem was only with the alterations for myself.  I didn't have problems with photography and or picture quality issue.  It was mainly the alteration part that pissed me off.  I only bought my wedding gown from them, which was where the problem was.  I bought my evening dresses, and "kei po" somewhere else, and those other places provide a very good alteration service.

好啦, 我個 Friend 尋日就嫁左 lark............ So far 新娘對 Ora 就好滿意. I didn't hear any dispute or arguments.
1. 改衫無問題, 無其他人遇到的問題. 反而有一條婚紗, 係我個 Friend o係 Internet 買的, 已經改細一次, 為左再靚D, Ora 堅持要再改多一次
2. 多謝Daisy 化到我同我個 Friend 好靚, 我唔覺得 Daisy 有 customer service 的問題. 全日新娘轉過4次妝, 伴娘我轉過一次, 最索的新娘啦!
3. 影相的攝影師很好, 很盡責. 影的相很靚. 我個 Friend 的 package 包埋一個 slide show. 我地 5:45pm 先至影完  photo shooting. 佢地o係2個小時之內, 將朝早接新娘, 教堂, 下午 photo shooting 的相弄成一個 slide show, 效果很好, 很驚喜, 我地無諗過效果會甘好
4. 佢地準備左D卡片俾我地派俾guest, 等D guest 自己上網睇相. 我覺得很方便 lor, 唔駛俾 D guest 話 “結左婚成年, 仔都生埋, 我都未睇過D相”

最後, 大家看東西請看重點. 之前果幾個禮拜我講的野, 重點係: Be a smart customer! Shop carefully!

而這個 PO 的重點是, 其他人講果D恐怖經驗, 可能我時運高, 遇不到. 學志雲大師話齋, “真的假不了, 假的真不了”

改埋頭像啦………… 證明係真人真事, 我唔係做”媒”! 手的主人是本小姐我!

Well, calm down sin la. Even you are not a "mui", but surely you (your friend) is the rarely lucky one, while many many complaints are out there. There is always a winning 649 ticket holder la, but the majority won't win jeh. I'm glad that your friend is satisfied with their service la.

I only got a few from the slide show. My profile picture is on of the few. As I said, I was amazed that it took them less than 2 hours to come up with an amazing slide show. Everyone in the banquet was surprised and amazed................. we won't be able to see the rest of the pictures until few weeks later. Did I answer your question? I am not a photography expert, and so does the bride. As a photography dummy, all I care is whether the Bride and I look good or not.

Fast service is expected for the wedding photography. When my cousin got married last year in Hong Kong, everyone got a printed copy of their picture on the same night!

Well, I don't know thousands of friends but all the friends I know, none of them have a positive comment lor. And see almost all replies here in lyk, I think only you are giving positive comment ah mah. That's why I can be sure you and your friend are the most luckiest one, or the only lucky one I know, who is happy with their service and work lor. You and your friend should seriously consider to buy 649 tomorrow!

2 hours to come up with a slideshow is pretty easy actually.  Just have to have the right software.  Pop in a few pictures and it pretty much makes the slideshow for you.  

Since you are not a photography expert, you wouldn't be able to tell whether or not a picture is over exposed or under exposed or whether or not it is in focus or not.   From a slideshow on  projector or TV in a restaurant you really can't tell whether or not the colour is correct or if the subject in the picture has proper focus or not.

Well, i guess you and your friend will find out in the next few weeks as to the result of the pictures.

yeah.. 2hrs for slideshow is pretty common. as dexxan said, since it's on projector, it's hard to tell if the quality is good.

STANDARD呢家野。。。好SUBJECTIVE。講真，你可以話ORA／仙子影得好嘅。。。因為HUNNIE嘅亞妹嘅相，同CREME影嘅相，某程度上，其實CUT ＆ PASTE個頭，就係一模一樣。好聽咪CONSISTENT囉。唔好聽嘅咪懶＆老土，冇心去影，只係去返同一個地方，SET返同一個角度咁拍拍拍就當係交貨。D化妝／頭，個個都係一樣。你覺得你個FRIEND同你好索，咁我見個個係ORA／仙子行出嚟嘅，咪好似你一樣咁鬼索，因為個頭同個妝，個景，D裙都係倒模的。
