ridiculous reason to keep them, esp the only valid reason was just fr a young girl's mouth (she probably would realize how stupid it was when she grown up a little bit)... how did she know ppl wouldn't give out nickels & dimes if all pennies are gone? when cost is higher than it's face value, should definitely get rid of them, st?p?d govt.!!!!!

You are right. as long as the tax rate is not a multiple of 5, we need pennies.

The tax rate shouldn't be an issue. In NZ, they don't use pennies. The amount is rounded to nearest nickle. It is a small give-n-take.
