Thinking about a 3 days short trip in the end of June...

Kinda hard to think...

Seattle/Portland...been there too many times already....
Victoria (been there recently)
Tofino - like to go there but it's just too expensive.
Whistler - I don't do zip lines, mountain bike...what else to do in summer?
Harison Hotspring: not interested...just can't compare with the Japanese style onsen...
Okenagan - we don't drink...so not too interested in winnery...

Anything else?

Okanagan- can do fruit-picking, but not sure if it is season yet.
There are other areas in Vancouver Island you can explore, but mostly just for scenic trip.

The Washington/Oregon coast is not bad, just prepare to drive on the narrow seaside.

Not sure if you are the camping type but for 3 days, there are a lot of location in BC that you can camp. And then relax and enjoy the wild.
作者: godavid    時間: 2010-6-2 01:49

just go USA for a good trip

I never did camping before...hm...any site would u suggest? Is there any shower facilities?
作者: 布小熊    時間: 2010-6-2 09:40

Some sites has shower but if you never go camping before, you need to get a lot of gears for the first time....
How about some B&B in BC or on the Island? How about Salt Spring Island if you haven't been there before? It's pretty relaxing. Nothing much to do lol if you want entertainment like sing-K or movie and clothes shopping. But they have a nice Saturday Farm Market and if you rent a house/apartment with kitchen, you can make some meal with the fresh produces. The goat cheese there is SUPER fresh and good. Much better than the same thing in supermarkets. (the package one with a flower or garlic on top, I am sure you've seen it in stores)
作者: fibbi    時間: 2010-6-2 09:56

Yeah i just want a relax getaway so shopping is not the priority la. Just that most decent accomodations I found (vancouver island or BC interior) are on the $200 range if not more. So to stay for 2 nights at least $600 to $700. It's a bit too much.

the new train trip is pretty attractive to me...
作者: fibbi    時間: 2010-6-2 10:01

Train to portland is pretty interesting...then just take MAX to hop around downtown...
just that I'm going to portland in august so that's why think of other places for June lor...
作者: totori    時間: 2010-6-2 10:03

Try sunshine coast or salt spring island, I like both places.

totori 發表於 2010-6-2 10:03 AM

Yeah! Sunshine coast is my next place to go within BC.
btw... do you dislike older places? Cos if that's the case, you have fewer options. It's personal liking and some ppl can't stand renting apartments and going to B&B cos it's the "old feeling". And proper hotel gives you the "clean feeling".  I have a few friends who only stay at hotels and in that case, SaltSpring and Sunshine coast will hardly offer those.
作者: news    時間: 2010-6-2 10:19

yeah jsut do b & b like bo siu hung said..its a cheaper alternative to a 'proper' hotel...and u get free breakfast!!

I have never stayed in B&B so I can't really comment. As long as it's clean I'm fine. I'm checking out sunshine coast too. Thanks!

I stayed http://www.sunshinecoast-resort.com/ before and it is good with reasonable rate.

We just took a weekend trip to Parksville BC over the last weekend.

Stayed at the Tigh-Na-Mara Hotel

It was low tide when we arrive, you can walk out to the sea for miles.  The ocean made really cool ripples on the sand floor

We visited Qualicum Beach, Little Qualicum Cheeseworks where you can feed little calfs, goats, bunnies.  Watch cheese made, milk the cows. Wine tasting at their wine shop.

Miniature Golf

Dinner at the Landing Restaurant, where there is an aquarium in the middle of the restaurant

Then the next morning, the high tide has came in

We went to Coombs, where goats live on the roof

Then on to Cathedral Grove at MacMillan Provincial Park

The trip was really nice, very relaxing.  I had a 1 hour massage at the Grotto Spa (this is their website picture)

The weather was TERRIBLE as it was raining most of the time. But we had fun!

Yeah looks nice!

The hotel is nice, VERY VERY rustic.  It's suppose to mimic a log cabin so nothing fancy.  We booked a ocean view room,  so the balcony faces the ocean.  It's a big hotel in terms of area, there are individual "cabins" that you can rent.  Or you can stay in the rooms, which is in a 3 level tall building.  There is about 5-6 difference multi-levels and about 15 small cabins.  The spa is really nice, very relaxing.

I had a 1 hour full body massage which cost $125, but I had a $20 coupon for May special.  Any booked treatment includes free Grotto minearal pool , but if you want to go to the mineral pool alone, it cost $40, so it's better deal to just do the spa.  The hotel won a lot of rewards for their spa, so they are booked up, I didn't book in advance but had some person cancel the last minute (very lucky) so I got an appointment.

The hotel also has a regular pool, gym that is free, free internet.

I like the goats and the market in Coombs. And found the tall trees in Cathedral Grove amazing.
I may go to that area again!
作者: khaki    時間: 2010-6-2 14:59

I wanted to go to this hotel for a long time la! It's just when I read the detail regarding pet staying in hotel, they do not allow the pet to be alone in room. Although I understand, but how can I go for a massage then.... i think I can never bring my dog with me if I really wanted to go~

Me too! But too bad I didn't see the Goat on the roof! (too cold to be outside in April)
作者: bubblesalt    時間: 2010-6-2 15:27

Goats on the roof are really cute.  Coombs is about 15 minutes drive from Parksville, almost all the buildings has grass on the roof.  It's a really nice little area (2 blocks) of little shops.  The main building is the General store, and they have a LOT of things for sale, including a cafe.
作者: tofu    時間: 2010-6-2 17:11

no need to compare to japanese, we have something that they don't have, ainsworth hotspring & hot spring cove.

whistler has lots of water spots, like Wedge Rafting, but not sure you like it or not.

in summer i will suggest you to go to the northern part of bc.  last year bc ferry has some ferry trips, you pay a flat fee and you can visit # of islands.

Thanks for the hot spring cove info. I didn't know such a place before. But it's 7 hours drive, it's a bit too much for 3 days.

The BC ferry trips to northern BC is also interesting...just that I have 3 days only...not enough time to stop by different ports lor...sigh
作者: pkphilip    時間: 2010-6-2 22:07

The pics from Parksville is nice!

I am thinking of winter getaway that is cheap as well, my plan was San Diego, but it is too costly on our budget now.

That's good deal. But if $600 for 4 or 5 days vacation that's good....but 3 days...I just wanna spend less lor...
Since the beginning of the year....already go to HK, Parksville, and going to Portland as well...just don't want to spend too much time lor...

Recently a friend went there in Salt Spring Island.
http://www.hastingshouse.com/

Looks so nice...and relaxing.
But price is also "too nice"...

Anything in Victoria Island is just so expensive...the ferry alone almost $200 round trip (2 ppl w/ car).
