Was organizing my pictures today, and all of a sudden just wanted to introduce some of the off-leash dog parks here in vancouver/richmond. Would love to hear other dog owners sharing other dog parks experiences in greater vancouver.

McDonald Beach, near the airport - is the one I mostly go to cuz I have to take the highway anyway and there's water and tons of places for dogs to play with. Especially happy for the dogs in the summer who love water! (also a heahache to owners who don't like their dogs getting wet and dirt all over lol)

A very big field for doggies to run before entering the beach

There's a small trail next to the beach

Somebody is too short

No.3 road & Dyke - was the park we went to a lot before moving on to McDonald beach. It's at the very end of No.3 road. Good for owners who don't like their dogs to get wet cuz it's pretty much just a big field to run around (tho some dogs are brave enough to walk down the rocks to the water lol). It's also a pretty nice place there cuz it's next to the river.

Fraser River Park - This park is located down Marine Drive (from the 70th ave and Marine intersection) next to the river also, and across the river is McDonald beach lol! Very very nice view there also because of the river and you can see air planes landing too

(sorry 我家小女坐得比較無儀態....lol)

Jericho/Spanish bank beach park - Ok, I have been there 3 times for BBQ with friends but I still can't differentiate between the two beaches, but anyway they do have a designated off-leash area for dogs (and probably dogs are not allowed on the beach......I don't know, I took them there and I saw a bunch of other dog owners did too lol) Very very nice there when low tide. You can also see DT and North van from the beach

fraser river park best, better than the no.3 one and mcdick's beach. i bring my dog there on sunny days.

Oh man! Thanks for the post...your dogs are soooo cute!
I brought my dog (a Boston Terrier) to the no. 3 park last week for the first time, and once off-leashed he ran around with other dogs chasing their balls. Unfortuntely one of them did go into the water to catch their ball so my dog went down with them!

I'm thinking of going to McDonald beach next time

haha, guess it depends on where you live too
fraser river park is a little far to me actually (感覺上....lol)
It's nicer view in there yet I like McDonald beach a bit better cuz it's even bigger

hehe, thanks thanks
yeah, same as my frd's huskies
they would walk down to the water no matter what, fortunately mine don't really like going into the water (still, I always have a bunch of dog hair and dirt in my car =_=)

your dog might probably like mcdonald beach too
especially it's getting warm now
just remember to bring a big towel to dry your dog after the swim ^_^

Thanks for the post! Hopefully I can train my dog to go off leash like yours so that he can enjoy running around.

For the McDonald Beach, is there a place to "rinse" the dogs after they go into the water? or only towel dry home?
作者: sko    時間: 2010-6-14 20:27

We let her freerun in this enclosed soccer field when no one is using it: the one outside cambie community centre

maybe you can try to bring some treats or his favorite toy to see if he comes back?
actually many dog parks are kinda like a naturally enclosed area, so at least owners don't have to worry about them running off the road and getting lost

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING!!!

I wish I can have my dog off-leashed...
BuddhaGirl604 發表於 2010-6-14 14:02

try starting from an enclosed area and practise the command "come" with your dog
get some treats
and like I said from a previous reply
most dog parks are naturally enclosed, so you don't need to worry too much about him/her getting lost ^_^
my frd did let her puppy going off leash at a dog park, eventhou it was a hassle getting her back on leash
at least she had a lot of fun playing with other dogs and running around~

Arlui 發表於 2010-6-14 14:52

haha.....I think many people would want to have that la
but no lor, there's no place to wash your dog
for my frd who has 2 huskies that like going into the water a lot
she usually brings a big bathing towel to dry them and let them run around a bit more on the field to "lose some sand" before getting back onto the car
so at least you don't get that much sand all over the car ^_^;;;

yeah, free-running is her fav thing to do, after sleeping.
not on that particular day because we were the only ones there.
but we were at the fisherman wharf on sunday and we saw tons of malteses there!
作者: Arlui    時間: 2010-6-15 09:12

The good thing about dog parks though is that your dog gets to play with other dogs, and they generally have more fun that way....at least BT is like that

does she play ball or anything?
yeah, steveston is a nice place to go to with doggie
that's good to see many of her kind ar, it's just kinda hard for me to meet other shelties lor
my eyes would definitely go bling bling when i see one on the street, haha

yup....I wouldn't want to run with my dogs either
cuz I won't "satisfy" them anyway lol
plus it's good to have doggie socializing with other dogs too~ Together with proper "education", socialized dogs are usually more friendly with dogs or humans ga~
that's why eventho there is a big grass field just across the street of my house
I still try to take my dogs out to other parks and meet other dogs ga~

She loves to play fetch at home. Her toys are everywhere in the house. lol

Shelties are realllllly nice. Their fur must be hard to upkeep though?
作者: B2L2    時間: 2010-6-17 15:21

I don't know they call Shelties until now.  I just call them small Sheepdog.  And I keep calling the bigger one as Lassie (what's the breed name?).

Your Shelties don't look like that small in your picture.  They are cute and beautiful.

sko, Maltese have beautiful hair.

We just became a dog owner for only 1 week, a Pom.  So many to learn.  I hope our doggie could meet in the future.

I have balls around the floor too.....
my girl is obsessed with balls and if she sees one she would grab one and bring it to whoever is the closest to her (yes, she's lazy) and starts staring at the ball waiting for the person to throw it for her. Usually if she wants me to throw the ball, I would just throw and quickly run away XD (she never gets tired of it.....eventho we go to park almost everyday with the ball....)

My boy is not too bad cuz his coat is relatively short for some reason
but my girl is. She has a really thick coat and almost like a fuzzy ball
many people think she's fat because of her coat LOL
It takes quite a while to do her hair since there are just so much of them
and I do see black hair all over my carpet.....=_=

yeah, many people in HK call them something like 小牧
the official name is Shetland Sheepdog (since they originate from Shetland of the UK), but for short, people just call them Sheltie

Lassie's breed name is called Collie
to be more specific, it's the Rough Collie (rough for long coat) because there's also the Smooth Collie that has a very short coat

hahhaa, many people say the same thing too
for many times, when my friends first see my dogs in person, they are like "oh wow, I didn't realize they were actually quite small when I saw your pictures!" Thank you thank you, I actually think all dogs are beautiful too ^_^

oh nice! where did you get your pom?
How's the house training so far? usually for many owners, the first couple of months are usually a big headache
I remember when my dogs were puppies, they pee and poo poo here, when I just finish cleaning up, I always see another pee pee poo poo waiting to be cleaned up.......

welcome, new dog owner! poms are sooooo adorable. i was debating between a poodle, a maltese, or a pom actually.

yes yes, so much to learn. it's like having a baby but without the 9 months of preparation time... i remember my bf and i had spent weeks 'researching' on the internet before getting the puppy, and of course.. even MORE 'researching' when the puppy actually arrived home.

be patient and good luck! can't wait to see your pom's pictures!
作者: B2L2    時間: 2010-6-18 10:03

Our puppy is only 3 months and 1 week old now.  He is just a baby and he loves to be carried as a baby (human baby) too.  LOL.

Yes, patient and lots of them is what we really need in his house training.  One good day and then follow by one bad day.  We just had it for a week (last Thurs) and this week seemed extremely long for us.
