I know very little about these car, but I quite like the Porsche 997, and would love to find out more, yet I don't seem to be able to find any good forum out there, maybe LYKs here can share you opinions here.

They are CHEAP in USA ...  (what else is not cheap in US?) lol

Since ~ 02 till now, 911 has been the lowest problem car u can buy ..

Try to stay away with the early 2005 launch edition C2S .. (usually Black + yellow ceremic brake)

Any 997 after 01/05 built are good.

Upgrade parts are cheap from US too, you can get EVO intake for just $700 US, TWE/EVO/Cargraphic  Cat Converter/muffler for just $3K US, header for another $2K, GIAC program for $1200 .. labour cost is also cheap from US ..

Basically, everything is 40% off compare to Can here ..

Personally, I like the crowd from 6speed much better. There are quite a few local 997 owners on that forum as well.

What types of information are you looking for in particular? Hope I can help.

At this time I am doing research on the (2006+) 997 Carrera 4S Cabriolet - 6MT. Beside the fact that I want PASM which comes standard on the S model, I really don't know what else to look for...!

Well ... dont need AWD la.. esp in Seattle, much more fun on 2S then 4S. (unless u go 2009 and up)

However, if u like the wide body look, 4S is the way to go .. but on Cab, it looks wider then coupe anyway .. I will suggest to stay with 2S.

Many thing u can look for, sport chrono, adaptive seat, full leather, Bose sound, short shifter, Bi Xenon.. etc etc, of course. service record is very important, CPO is the way to go.

911 cab is alright .. been out for ~ 30 yr, 04 and up are bullet proof, it is not a Benz hard top.

Anyway, I suggest CPO, as u said, if the top goes wrong, easy $3K plus to fix.

I just fig. it's easier for me to access my 2 kids on a soft-top, but I'll go test out my childseats sometime this week, and see how fitting is like..! As for the AWD vs RWD, I kind of like the AWD for the extra wet/snow safety when carry 2 extra kids in the back if you know what I am saying..! I am going to test drive both the RWD & AWD, and see how it's like.

hmm... if you are considering safety, then might as well get a larger car... nothing replaces extra crumple zones.

I know a lot of people argue that they can carry a kid with a 911... but really... a 911 is not the best choice for a baby car. Besides, I'm sure you have much better cars for carrying your kids, why not leave the 911 as a purist RWD hardtop?

My little background is that I had a Jeep 4x4 then a STi (AWD), they both works awesome in snow. But my Miata with Snow tires... is... not good enough..! So, I don't see how a Porsche C2 with snow tire can be much better..! I guess that's what I mean by safety...! Now so much about daily drive, but about in exteme conditions.!

I also enjoy the driving AWD in the rain, so I can see how I may hate the RWD feels in the rain.

Don't forget that in Seattle, we have lots of up/down hills in those snowy condition..! If I would to be in Vancouver, I think I would pick C2 over C4, since they are quite abit cheaper..!

The 911 4S are surprisingly good cars in the winter as long as it still has enough ground clearance. Then again, my question is -- who really wants to expose their super nice car to all that winter salt and grime?

EL, I better warn you, either C2 or C4 coupe, backseat are decent for kids, (well, depend how tall you are, if you are over 6'4 .. then a bit problem) however, on the Cab, back seat is tiny, (~ 4 inch less back space) it is still "ok" to put a booster seat on, (take the base leather piece out) but not child seat.

I forget how old are your kid, but your small one should be quite young, and I am not sure about car seat law in USA, as many car seats will fit into the 911 back seat, are not legal in Canada ...

Again, why you worry about snow driving?? it is Seattle!

My wife and I had a CR-V & the Jeep. We sold the CR-V for the STi, then we sold the Jeep for an RDX. We then bought a Miata as our 3rd car 2 years ago. I had to drive the Miata for a month in the snow, and I bought snow tire right away, but still not good enough.
Now, I am ready to sell both Miata & STi for a C4 or C4S Cab.

I guess that's the story...

I was under the impression that you still have either the Jeep or the STi, or both? In that case, ...

Ha? no way .. put it this way, 911's back seat is small to start with ..

ANY .. ANY convertible, smaller back seat! (3 series, CLK, 6 series .. etc etc .. )

Another suggestion is, M6 cab .. you are not going to see as much fun as a C2S, about as quick as C2S/C4S, (and much faster @ higher speed) much more room then the C2S/4S cab, plus big enough trunk for your stroller etc .. but don't get 6sp, at least get SMG.

I guess the price will be similar to the C2S cab/C4s Cab, around $70K US area. (~ 85-90K cad here, if CPO)

I *LOVE* to drive the same car in all weather conditions (including the snow) because that is the car I know best, and I know exactly how she'll behave under whatever condition I encounter. Having said that, it also pains me to see all the winter salt eating away at my favourite car.

So for that salt season duty, I'd much rather drive a piece of crap and give up a little fun so that my baby gets preserved. Then I can really enjoy her when it warms up again.

The car is fully capable in snowy weather, but it's just a question of if you want to go through all those salts and rocks on north american winter roads. They don't use salt in europe for the snow, I guess that's why you still see lots of higher end cars with winter tires driving through the winter seasons.

I think LV and Guess is "Closer" then Hermes and LV wor .. at least, LV and Guess, much closer in Price ...

and they are about as common ....

and lots of southern asian use Guess and LV as well ..

=D I actually saw some spy pictures of the 998, It's suppose to have longer wheelbase... and stuffs.. but by the look of the spy photo, isn't not very good looking..., but if it does, it may help lower the price on the current 997 prices.. which is pretty high at this point for the used market...! Indeed, most people think it's far too high...!

It is a 911 .. so, won't be big surprise in look anyway .. and Porsche won't repeat the "mistake" they have done with 996 ..

997 price is actually low, very low now, compare to Ferrari, A/S, Lambo, M6/5, XK etc .. resale value still high, but since the option list for Porsche can go crazy .. yes, a base 911 is only $80K US/98K cad, however, with "reasonable" option, will be $90K US/110K cad .. S model would be $100K/125K cad to start with .. another $10K for the Cab, and as the most reliable car u can buy in the market, so for half the price, you are getting a problem free true sports car with low mileage .. ^_^

On the other hand, just 996's second hand price is way way too low in US (and Cad) .. the most underated 911, and with the latest 3.6L engine, 996 is by far the best for your buck, and also super reliable.
