RICHMOND (NEWS1130) - The life of BC's first lieutenant-governor of Asian descent David Lam is being celebrated today. It was in 1988 that former Premier Bill Vander Zalm helped get Lam the job as the province's 25th lieutenant governor.
Lam served until 1995 and was known for his generosity and a great sense of humour.
Vander Zalm says the man he knew so well, will be greatly missed. "He was a very gentle man, a very caring individual, very philanthropic, I think as we are all aware. Very nice to work with for sure."
Lam's name adorns many buildings, parks and gardens around town. He died Sunday following a battle with prostate cancer at the age of 87.
