Surrey family's world 'upside down' after twin infants critically burned in bed
Two 'heroes' helped mother save children from blaze
Two 20-month-old twins were critically injured in a bedroom fire in Surrey Tuesday night.
“The fire occurred in a bedroom where two 20-month-old female twins were in their crib, and they suffered extensive burns,” said Surrey RCMP Staff Sgt. David Brown.
The 911 fire call in a third-floor apartment building in the 9500 block of 127th Street came in to the fire department at 5:50 p.m.
Police say the twins' mother was at home at the time of the fire.
“The mother sought assistance from other persons in the apartment building,” said Brown. “Two adult males from across the hall heroically retrieved these girls with the mother’s assistance.”
The two male neighbours and the mother all suffered smoke inhalation and were taken to hospital for treatment.
A three year old boy was also taken to hospital but did not suffer serious injuries.
“Early indications are that it was an accidental fire,” said Brown. “It’s not suspicious.”
A lamp may have tipped over in the bedroom, said Brown.
“The fire inspector is there working with our plain clothes members currently to understand what exactly happened,” said Brown.
The fire was isolated to the third floor apartment where it started.
The twin girls are being treated in the burn unit at Vancouver Children’s Hospital.
Brown said the twins are in “very critical” condition.
“It’s very traumatic,” said Brown. “The family’s world is turned upside down.”作者: tiffiant 時間: 2011-1-5 00:50
