The latest Angus Reid survey has the Liberals trailing the Conservatives by six percentage points. University of Victoria Political Scientist Dennis Pilon says the two parties will really have to touch a nerve with voters across the country if they want to change the political landscape in Ottawa.
He tells us, "The important thing once an election is happening is 'What do people want?' 'Where are people going to fall?' How are they going to decide between these two titanic federal parties that are always the ones who win - the Conservatives or the Liberals?'"
Canadians don't want to see another election. At least, that's what you hear from Prime Minister Stephen Harper every time he steps in front of the microphone. But Pilon feels the next budget might be a tough pill for the Opposition to swallow.
He says , "It's possible that with this latest budget from the Conservatives... we may be heading to the kind of confrontation that would bring an election. With that in mind, it's not surprising to see the leader of the Opposition showing up in a place like Vancouver."
