similar to sandwiches but I do wraps sometimes.
Or dry noodle. (lo mein)
Sometimes I bring dumplings as "emergency lunch items"

I have "moved on" from canned soup. My bf refused to eat them and I get so thirsty after for most of them. I have a carton of Pacific roast pepper tomato soup at my desk as emergency food if I didn't pack lunch and don't get to eat outside.
I made soup for lunch some time. Western soup is relatively easy to make. One handy tool is a immersible hand held blender. With that, I can make butternut squash, potato, leek, creamy tomato, carrot...etc soup in less than 30 mins. some freeze well and they are good lunch with a slice of bread.

For "western soup", I usually do it without a recipe.
All you need is chicken/beef/veal/mushroom stock. Better to make your own but I am too lazy and don't have enough freezer space if I made too much.
So I just use Pacific low sodium chicken stock for most of them.
Usually, i start with some chopped onions or garlic (or not) and then heat them in a saucepan with a bit of olive oil in low/medium heat. Until they are tender and a bit brown.
Then variation comes here for anything you like: mushroom or carrot + celery or leek + potato, pea, broccoli, cauliflower...etc. Just chop them up and put them in, heat for a few mins.
Add white wine if you choose to or some stock otherwise, then scrap up all the browns on the side of the pot. once that's done, add the rest of the stock. Add any herb if you want at this time. Bring to a boil and simmer until the ingrediants are tender.
Meat is option here. You can put cooked diced chicken or diced ham or meat balls or cooked pasta or wild rice. If you like bacon or sausages, you can add some at the very beginning with the onion (no extra oil needed or you may pour out extras)

If you want blend style soup, blend it before adding the meat in. Season with salt and pepper and taste it. If you want creamy soup, add some cream at the very end before you serve it.

haven't been driving to work
Only walking distant place is the BAD evil McD.
I don't like so much milk and cream in double double. And not a big fan of bacon either. (I prefer chips!)

1) Grilled chicken or fish (Salt, red pepper, cooking wine, Montreal seasoning for seasoning)
2) Cucumber and baby carrot (wash and eat them raw)
3) Microwaved yams or cooked rice

i usually just cook extra for dinner and pack for lunch the next day...that's for my hubby as I hate eating left overs.

For myself, I like having raw bell peppers, grapefruits, grapes, crackers, salad kit. When I'm lazy, i usually just buy a homemade soup or sandwich from the coffee shop next door or have a bigger breakfast and don't bother with lunch.

bison stew meat sounds like a great idea. I have used ground beef most of the time but I think better quality ground beef makes better chili. (kinda obvious )
Going to a butcher this Sat, so I will see if he has any bison.
I don't have a pressure cooker so I just need to soak the beans overnight (or for a few hours) and cook them for a bit over an hour before head. Not so bad. Cos as long as I am home to monitor, I can leave them alone in the pot.

Bison is lean and flavourful, not gamy.
You can make a larger batch of chili and
freeze them in 4-5 portions.
I cook a large batch for my son and he
takes it to school for lunch.

It's really hard to plan so well!
e.g. recipe call for celery... Then you only use like 3 stems.... the rest.. will need to be "clean up" later. I have that problem all the time.
作者: fibbi    時間: 2011-3-4 01:06

Usually for a bag of veggie (choy sum/guy larn or even celery) I would have half a bag for dinner. So for one week, I would buy 3 bags. For meat I bought pre-slice meat from Yaohan. So cooking 6 days a week = 6 packs of meat. Egg can stay for a while so it's ok...
For fish ball etc...it can stay longer in the freezer la.

My meal plan isn't so easy.
I made stew, chili, roast meat... and sometimes, I buy things just cos they look fresh or are on sale (bad idea).
Hardest part is we don't eat at home everyday. there are sudden dinner invitation or if I have to stay at work a bit late and were too hungry to cook... Then we eat out.

fish ball?? go Costco buy fish fillet, cut into 1" section, frozen, lay in 12" zip lock bag, have space between pieces. after frozen, u can put it into a bag. it is better than fish ball.
i do it with chicken  too. cut into small pieces. frozen
when you need it, just take few pieces out.

it's hard to get fresh/live fish fillet without paying a lot of $$.
but I agree that fish ball is very unhealthy.
I did the ice-cube version of pesto. Cos you won't really use that much pesto anyway.
I don't have more freezer space for more pre-made stuffs any more.
I am seriously thinking of getting a stand alone freezer...
