作者: rockypath    時間: 2008-2-17 09:35

it is a dessert & coffee house, not restaurant.
it has a website: www.yavisclub.com

the cheesecake is not bad .... i like the frozen one.
作者: Carmui    時間: 2008-2-17 15:00

looks like most of their desserts are cheesecake..  not so much of a variety~
tho the green-tea frozen cheesecake looks good haha~

Has anyone else been to Yavis?
作者: rockypath    時間: 2008-2-17 15:17

The boss (i guess) said they want to be good and focused insteand to be more. Make sense.

The shop is not busy since not many poeple know this location. But my friends  and I like it.

Want to see they have more variety and the boss said they will in the summer.
作者: Carmui    時間: 2008-2-17 18:04

oh nice.. thanks for the info!
Maybe i'll try this place later...
作者: daimo    時間: 2008-3-14 10:37

Food isn't t bad ... some of the dishes are quite unique.  I just had red curry beef brisket and it was decent.

... but in general not enough selection and focus.

Drinks are pretty good.  quite a quiet place for now ... good for having a conversation.

But the owner has his heart in it.

I passed by Yavis Club last week and it seemed to me that there was a film shooting inside.
作者: 阿朱    時間: 2008-4-22 16:36

haha you must be related to this place, mentioning this twice in different thread....maybe I guessed wrong though
作者: rockypath    時間: 2008-4-29 21:04

Well, taste is very personal. Some people like it and there must be some people dislike it.

Some of my friends do not like cheesecake at all. We must try it ourselves in order to make a judgement. Even that it is still a personal opinion.

I know it is on Channel M as well since it is posted on its website. My friends at UBC watched it. We want to know more about how is like to start a business in Vancouver/Canada. We might want to open a business ourselves in the future. Never know.
作者: 布小熊    時間: 2008-4-29 21:14

haven't tasted their food yet. But ... they use... mascarpone for their "plain" cheesecake...
Well, personally I wouldn't like cheesecake made with mascarpone... It just sounds too creamy for me.
btw I love new york cheesecake because I love the acidity/tartness of the cheese...
Guess you are right. Diff ppl have diff taste.

Original flavour cheese cake for people who love the orginal tast of the cheese. We use Mascarpone cheese in out cake and the cake is delicate, moist and without the acidity aftertaste.

this place is a real joke. from store design, menu concept, ambient theme, all sums as a disastrous mess up. I drove by the place, coincidently parked right at the store front. I stood there there for 20 minute. While waited for my friends, i observed this small little coffee/desert, asian marketed eatery. The menu is boring, stale, and juvenile. It tends to be innovative, but lack of real creativity.  It appeals to me that this joint is run by a couple young punks, inexperience, poor-culinary background, but with deep pockets of mommy and daddy.  Unfortunately, the exterior image of the store has convinced me to stay away, and would be a waste of my money if I sat down for a mere "let's give it a try" session.

responded in less than an hour, and the only response. If I haven't gotten it wrong, you are the poster of this thread. Paying close attention to a thread, rebutting, defending, in a manner of humbleness and polite. Either you are a true cuisine tasting crusader,  or either you must be.... Take my word for not advice but a two cent of the day. The shop design and its interior signage sucks. It is wasted by how it is positioned. The store has spent great deal in making the interior front door signage yet, placing it at foot level. unattractive, useless, and capture no branding impact.  There's crap ass anyone can do about that further.  If there is concern in becoming a better player in the eatery business game, explore a broader menu, and focus less in doing teenie boys and girls businesses. The y are not hte rest. only target market. The strip mall has a good traffic of  mix age group, a much better disposal cash to spent on food. They, however, expect less for just a slice of mushy ooui, calorie rack up cheese cake, or any ordinary , non sophisticate pork rice on the piatto.  Fire the chef, and get some one who can design a menu that bsed on the day's fresh greens and ingridients. That is what currently lack of  in the proximity of that mall. The rest. has bright lighting fixture and sleek furnitures, but they are just furnitures if the food is not edible enough.

hey bluntbro,
it's actually good here if you get a response (if any) in an hour.
well I have never been to this place so I cannot really judge their food.
Guess your profession is related to restaurant business. And lots of restaurants are being run as just home/newbies business. But sometimes they do survive.
its_visa,
in case you are a friend of the owner or a regular customer there, may be you can convert some of bluntbro's points into constructive advice for this place to improve.
I don't like Asian style cheesecake so this place is not for me.

You don't have to like the place by just peeking from outside for 20 minutes.
There must be some philosophy behind the concept when the owner planned for his
business before the investment. You do not need to use such blunt conclusion
based on simple observation without investigating the background, no to mention that
you refuse give it a try. This place is market as a cheesecake specialty shop so what
would you expect on the menu?
I do know people without formal culinary training success in food business.

If you think you can turn things around, why don't you just go inside and
talk to the owner. We all like to witness a miracle.

我都係第一次見到有人踩一間店踩得盡就因為你唔鐘意個interial design。
如果D野好食,就算街邊欓我都照幫襯。

D設計很奇怪麽?話唔定係你見識少。

I have a strong feeling that you are a competitor of this shop, Bluntbro. Normal people won't make comments and react in the same as you did.
I would suggest you to mind your own business and pay attention to improving your products (or maybe the design of your environment?). Badmouthing your competitor won't work here.
作者: rockypath    時間: 2008-6-11 09:02

BTW, a few of my friends who are designer have a good impression of the design of the store because it is one of a few restaurantes in Vancouver has a clear theme for their interior design. You can dislike the design, but from the design point of view it has a clear theme and its own characters.

You can ask your friends who are designers to take a look at this place and I think they should be able to give you a more professional and objective opinion. And help you with your store???

look at the dirt and dust  all kicked up by the turbine of the swirl wind. C'mon on, let's face it, we are just talking about a business model that sells a pc of cake.

Here's a thought:

one day: 阿朱 &  布小熊 was hanging out pointlessly, killing time.   Some where in time, 阿朱 whines: I'm hungry... and 布小熊 says: dame, me too..hey look, there is a rocky path, let's check it out what's good.  With low blood sugar in both persons' system, 阿朱 lack of analytical rationalizing ability aka LARA symptom, intensified, and 布小熊 was unable to keep up with her logical brain power processing, as normal human, they go with instinct. On the strip of rocky path, there are a few joints, A,B, C. They look at A, grungy store appearance, menu, somewhat whacky. Rest. B, bright, new, checking the menu, well, looks alright, short, limited choice, doesn't sound appetizing.  Rest. C, nice and bright, hip and trend, half way down the menu, 阿朱 already begun to fantasizing some of the dishes he is gobbling down his throat. Well, picture that in your own case, do most people, at least 85% of the population gone through the same actual process when u pick your next dine out moment? Stat. works, people. Menu + Store Appearance +location + Pricing are your hard factors, and soft factors are your Service + store cleanliness, marketing. Restaurant business.

Welcome to the end of the thought process. If  this doesn't transcend you anything from above, that's fine, we are just shooting the breeze.

And if you think I am jerk, welcome to the club, indeed, I am, in your recommendation, but a jerk who doesn't care what names he  got called, but focus on the facts and ends, and careless if you like me or not.

Here is nothing specific or personal to this particular restaurant, but as it is on the table for discussion, maybe, it's just pouring out my noise makng gut, pounding and grinding are the usual suspect when things suck on their end. I m not in the restaurant business. Rather, something else.  Dame, do I hate those disclaimer statement.

Anyway, running a restaurant isn't at all rocket science, but it is definitely not a piece of cake.   Let's share a kind moment: change your menu, cheese cake restaurant. Your balance sheet will come out from just barely breaking even to doing positively.

Bluntbro.
Have you tried the place out yet? I was thinking what your comment will be after you actually walk in and sit down to have a try.
I just revisited this place recently and it was much busier than before (full house actually). It does not look like it will go out of business anytime soon as you predicted.
I think there are more than one model (or one way) to have a successful business.

this place is good for ppl who actually like cheesecakes, cuz its hard to find such a variety of flavors
n plus its a nice change from bbt...

I would say its cheesecake now is much better than the time it was newly opened. At the time, we were often the only table in the shop. We enjoyed the quite enviroment of talking more than the dessert itself.

Maybe they changed the chef. The cheesecakes they offer now are pretty decent. By looking at the crowd it got now, it does tell us something.
作者: its_visa    時間: 2008-9-10 18:00

yeah..i think the cheesecakes are different than when it started too ! better & more of the "cheese" taste to it ` a little more heavy now```

but.....i hate to say it....i went there b4 coz i liked the quiet enviroment...but now...when i go...i always see abunch of high sku or 1st year uni students fooling around in there.......kinda annoying sometimes....-_-
