OTTAWA (NEWS1130) - The Greens are getting their day in court. The party is going before a Federal Court judge to ask that leader Elizabeth May be allowed in the televised leaders' debate.
"We have a lot of evidence that they've made a decision that violates the CRTC rules," says May.
But she stresses that time is of the essence and her lawyer will be applying to have the proceedings sped up. "We are in the court case for the long haul, but it's only relevant for the 2011 election if we can get a court date this week."
May admits she is touched by the support she has received, especially with a petition that apparently has over 100,000 signatures.
She also has the support of former Prime Ministers Joe Clark and Paul Martin, who both say the consortium's decision is "undemocratic."
Debating the leaders' debate
It's a snowball's chance in global warming that the Green leader will actually show up at the "Other Parties Discussion," April 23rd in Toronto.
The invite has gone out to the Greens, the Marijuana Party, the Communist Party, the Pirate Party, the Rhino Party and others.
A spokesman for the Green Party tells the National Post they are not one of the small fringe parties and they do not put themselves in that group. The Canadian Action Party is organizing the public forum, designed to give small parties a bigger voice.
The Pirate Party tells the newspaper the Greens are making a mistake with the apparent snub, noting the Greens are not actually significantly ahead of the Pirates right now.
Blair Longley, leader of the Marijuana Party, says he will attend if someone subsidizes his expenses to fly in from Montreal. "I'm fringe of the fringe of the fringe. Nothing I say matters," Longley tells the Post.作者: tiffiant 時間: 2011-4-5 07:28
