Some people are now forecasting a merger of NDP and the Liberals, hoping that the new NDP will trash the Conservatives next election.

i don't think there iwll be a merge. because the ideology are different.

The editor of Canadian Ming Pao is one of the poorest amongst local Chinese media. I always get no clue what they are reporting. Content is hollow, no depth or re-reporting other articles from other media.

Whoever takes up the Liberal helm at this point is only gonna be another lame duck and temporary stand in. Rae will just be another relic from the eras bygone, and factions within the Liberals may still not like/support him despite Dion and Ignatieff's demise. Until Justin Trudeau truly comes of age, no one in the Liberals is charismatic enough to rally all their supporter under the red banner. The risk here is, is Justin Trudeau capable enough to be the real deal, or is just another dud with more hype than capability?

IMO, a merger with the NDP will only result in short term gains and long term losses. The Liberal Party of Canada has had a 100 year's worth of pedigree since the days of our nation's forefathers. If they were to merge with the NDP, could they even keep the Liberal name? Is LDP (Liberal Democratic Party) gonna sound right? Are they just going to merge party colours of red and orange to an orangey red? The NDP is not going to accept retaining only the Liberals name because at this point, the word "Liberal" is damaged goods. Most importantly, "merging" with the NDP right now will simply mean that the Liberals are gonna get swallowed, meat, bones, and all. The 100 year banner that once flew so high and proud will be no more.
Of course, I am not saying parties need to live on forever. The Conservatives were once Liberal-Conservatives, and then Progressive Conservatives, the split to PC and Reform Party / Canadian Alliance, etc. But for a party with such long history to go the way of the dinosaurs, it would be a little sad.

One more comment on the potential NDP-Liberals merger. Critics have been saying that the Liberals have shifted towards the right in recent years, and that some of the supporters have grown frustrated with that political spectrum shift. Perhaps the suggestion to merge with the NDP is a means to return further to the left.
But it should be noted that (yeah, once again) Justin Trudeau's ideologies are actually on the more socialist side within the Liberals, so should he assume the reign of the party whenever he does (after the next election, maybe?), the Liberals will invariably shift back to the left.

Western democratic leaders, to some extent, depend on their hollow charisma, and their ability to bla bla bla in public, not on real ability.
Many of them have good acting skills, good enough for Oscar prizes.

But especially western political leaders. charisma, acting in public, talking like talk show hosts are the most important acting skills, to get elected.

Mr foul mouth Lik, let me make this clear, when I quoted from rainbow-davie, there were two Justins mentioned. Which Justin are you talking about? Well, anyway whether Justin Trudeau or Justin Beiber will need their charisma to gain political power.
