0 HOPE (NEWS1130) - Fire crews, RCMP officers, and emergency social services workers are on the scene after an overnight tragedy west of Hope. An 18 month old child is dead after a fire in the community of Silver Creek.
The call came in to Hope fire crews just after 1:30 a.m.; when they arrived, the two storey home was completely engulfed in flames. Speaking live on the News1130 Morning Show, Fire Chief Tom DeSourcy says they simply couldn't get to the child in time.
"Crews had to work at that fire, [they were] unable to safely enter the structure for some time. Once they did so, they unfortunately located the deceased 18-month-old."
The RCMP and Emergency Social Services are now working with the family. At this point, there's no word what started the fire.
