any kind of soup is OK. Like... winter melon soup with chinese ham!Or any thick seafood soup...
Actually I think there should be a competition for a soup for Chinese banquet to replace shark fin soup!!!

btw ppl stop giving me the weird look when I didn't eat shark fin soup at wedding banquet any more. They respect my choice.

唔食魚翅有乜好食呀？其實仲有大把嘢好食！原只鮑魚燉竹絲雞位上啦，夠排場嘞掛！Actually most shark's fin served at wedding banquet is just the cheap ones, many other soup could be better and more deluxe. The problem is, new couples need to have gut to "against" so called Chinese tradition la.

This is qouted from a newsletter sent out by Shark Truth today.

Soup Cooking Contest for Fall 2011
Many of you have asked us what kinds of alternatives there are for shark fin soup -- we are pleased to announce that this fall, we will begin a new tradition to help answer that question. On May 7, Vancouver Foundation awarded Shark Truth with a grant from Generation Green for $12, 500, which will be used to create our next project - a soup cooking contest! It's going to be an Iron-chef style showdown where chefs showcase their creativity and talent by creating shark-fin alternatives. Their dishes will help usher in a new wave of shark-free soups banquets for weddings, baby showers and anniversaries.

We are honoured to be amongst such talented young green entrepeneurs - thank you, Vancouver Foundation! You can read about Generation Green and fellow award winners on The Vancouver Sun.

This is what I like to see! But the cruel reality is, guests mainly want to eat (at chinese wedding banquet), and eat.......... @_@;;

Saw the wedding menu in Kirin, which offer choice of shark fin or bird nest. I think it's a good alternative of shark fin la.

That includes all hotels that are part of the 半島酒店 chain in other countries, not only in Hong Kong.
