I don't think a gun will make drunken people back off.

I think a win for the authorities here is to minimize casualty first, and economic cost 2nd. I don't think putting a bullet in someone's head will minimize the casualty department overall. It might either make the crowd charge at the police, then it will force lethal forces. The death toll definatley will be in the double digit of that happened. I'd consider that a major fail of the authorities in that case.

I think it's not too bad now. It's handled okay because the police observed reservation intead of aggression. Could've done better, but definately no where near worst case scenario. 150~ injuries and 1 serious injury. Very few reports of actual police brutality. 0 confirm deaths.

Vancouver Police didn't do their job. This happened in 1994, and in other major sport events. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/abraham/detail?entry_id=66130 They knew damn well this can happen,but they didn't prepare for it. At least during Olympics there were camera to monitor the street. Now they are asking people to upload photo and video clip to youtube. This is totally lame.

Even stupid Calgary, during Playoff, police everywhere. ( on 17/downtown )

Because of saving money, saving time, saving labor ... now they need to spend more ...

let me clarify. i took off just in time, not to evade from the police picket line or arrest but the riot itself. haha. some people might think that i am the trouble maker too.

i was a little surprised in fact when happy cowboy posted this up yesterday. i was right there. collecting my bottles and all these liquors. all these youths dumping their whiskey and beer unopened before they entered the big screen arena as they might have seen the police standing there. or they saw me i don't know. i was too busy collecting. i was standing at just one spot and money kept coming my way. and then i left and it happened. and i wasn't aware of the intensity of the riot cause everything was so normal when i was there.
